I'm going to have a 12 ft long island that is 36" deep and will have seating along the length. I found pendants I LOVE (takes 1 60W bulb), but they're only 6" diameter! Very small for the island size. I found a second pendant light that I like pretty well... it is 14" diameter (takes 3 60W bulbs).

They are complementary, so I was considering buying the smaller as pendants for the island and the larger as a chandelier to go over the dining table. The light for the dining table would be nearly a straight line from the pendants, but about 6' away from the island over 6-seat table, all within visual distance.

Four questions.
1. Is it a terrible idea to go with the smaller 6" pendant for the island, even if it means more of them?
2. Is the larger (14") going to be big enough to be a chandelier? The existing chandelier is about 17" and I may stick with it, particularly if I go with the larger "pendants"--the old chandelier is also complementary to both that I'm considering.
3. How many of the 6" pendants would you use over a 12' island?
4. How many of the 14" pendants would you use over a 12' island?
