Nobody on the interner knows your laundry detergent, washer,, water supply, and your body washing ingredients.

I’ve never used fabric softener in a washing machine. I think it’s just a waste of money. I do line dry a lot of my laundry. For most items this is not an issue. If I want to soften a crunchy item I just toss it in the dryer for a couple of minutes. I have found that a gas dryer does a better job than an electric.

Arm & Hammer detergents have been low-rated in some past testing.

@wdccruise I use the Persil Free and Sensitive and now that I've learned A&H might not work well, I'll keep it on hand. I can only get it ordering online which is a drag. Our laundry is only really visibly dirty during landscape season. Whites get some oxi and are bright. It will be interesting to see if it will remain so. I just love the scent of that A&H - smells like lemon borax Fab.

@spindle22 I'll have to see how stiff the line dried clothes are without softener. No softener is used on towels which go in the dryer for 10 minutes then line dry to avoid the stiffness. I was really hoping for a non-damaging softening product for the clothing, though.

Add a bit of the A&H with the Persil to check what is the resultant scent. I occasionally mix detergents. I mixed a bit of Ace powder with Persil liquid on a load of sheets last week.

In CR's tests, a laundry detergent that cleaned grass stains and dirt the best was Persil ProClean Stain Fighter (Walmart; also at Amazon) so you might want to try that during landscape season instead of Persil Free and Sensitive.

I don't use fabric softener in the washer, never have. I do use free&clear dryer sheets but only to eliminate the static. For stuff I air dry in the house, I toss into the dryer (no dryer sheet) for just a few minutes on low or extra low to cut down on wrinkles and soften a bit before I steam with the Jiffy steamer. So maybe just tossing into the dryer very briefly will help.
