Silly faucet question

Hi, bought this faucet (it's gorgeous!) for our kitchen remodel. It seems that the hose is only to be used as a sprayer. As in water only comes out of it if you hold the handle on it down. I guess I thought when I turned on the water at the bottom right, water would come out of the hose as a direct stream. Is that kind of design obselete now for water saving reasons or did we miss something in the installation?

I am able to set the second faucet in the ON position, so that when the water is turned on at the bottom right, it comes out as a steady stream there. No biggie, just seemed a bit unusual to me. I thought the second arm was just there as an additional stream to fill up pots while using the hose. But the hose in this design seems of secondary value.
