I had gotten pinata when i thought i had blossomtime .

my only blossomtime thing i do remember was incredible mildew in the spring here in california . i killed it accidentally when i dug it up . anyway i hope this works out for you ! :)

I remember Blossomtime being very thorny. I still have it in a 3 gal pot. I just am not sure which one it is! lol..Its in the lost tag section until it blooms here.

I agree BT is very thorny, it kinda looks like BT. I have two growing in my yard, here are some photos. I hope it helps.

If I go by my other garden I’ll take pictures of my blossom time foliage. I am afraid your foliage is a bit too shiny. I think it is funny you say booohoo to some Kordes lol. If I even saw a Kordes at my local lowes I would cry of happiness.

Thanks everyone for the responses! Looking at the pics of Haku’s and Dianela’s Blossomtime, I can see the foliage is significantly more grey, elongated and less glossy than my plant. Yep, Kordibunda. Or perhaps it will burst into Lilyfinch’s Pinata, too.

You are too kind to offer to root it for me. I do think I have a friend that might be able to supply cuttings locally. My local Lowes in TX would get Kordes roses in special colored pots every spring, same in CA last spring. I hope your local Lowes does the same.

I actually never grown an Veranda, so perhaps I’ve been too quick to judge. I will say many Kordes I’ve tried (Mme Anisette, Summer Romance, Tupelo Honey, Beverly, Savannah) have been poor repeaters for me. So when I see that Lowes shipment I think, here come the big green thugs. But Soul Sister and Poseidon have been very good for me.

I guess finding and old sentimental climber in a coffin at Big Orange was just too good to be true! Oh well, I will still have fun anticipating the first mystery bloom, and it’ll probably make a nice gift for a neighbor.

Since you rarely get the labeled rose, they should save the time and expense and leave them unlabeled in a bin called Crapshoot .

Ben, I've bought "Blossomtime" twice. What I got was Cl Don Juan and America. So I guess you could say I got "Prospective Consolation", since they definitely weren't what I thought, but turned out to be quite good roses, lol.

Your Crapshoot Collection is most impressive and comprehensive, yet somehow I am not at all envious.

Once I bought this huge incredibly robust body bag labeled Sterling Silver, and marveled how well they grew this notoriously weak variety. When it bloomed, it was Queen Liz, that’s how. Hope springs eternal.

I bought one of those "Coffin Roses" (good name lol) this spring, label said, Blue Girl. It recently bloomed and is definitely Blue Girl. I must have got lucky!

Hope springs eternal, indeed. Those body bags arrive in early spring before anything else is available, taunting us with their colorful pics, thick waxy canes and low low prices. I doubt anyone on this thread has bought their last body bag or upright coffin.

I guess I'm a life long "No Hoper"--I've never bought a body bag rose, and the ones I see around are pathetic--labeled by color. As precious as my limited space is, I want to know for sure what I'm getting. Diane

I can't wait to try Blossomtime. I have it on order from Petals from the Past, the only place I could find it. I saw these "coffin roses" for the first time and posted about it here: https://www.houzz.com/discussions/6355783/home-depot-roses-in-nj-today-3-11-23 although it didn't show up in the forums for some reason. Anyway, one was labeled Scentimental but rang up as Sexy Rexy. I prefer a scented rose but Sexy Rexy looks very pretty too.

I got one from home depot that says its Moon Light in Paris... lots of growth... no flower yet. Time will tell

Ben, I guess I'll miss the great deal on the Rosen Tantau collection, since I won't set foot in Wallyworld. My friend and used to check out their gardening department at various stores once in a while, and what we saw made us sick. Plants that never were watered, a giant mess, and sales "help" that didn't know what they were selling. I had to point out a common plant and identify it for the salesperson working in the department. I know, as an elderly person, I'm easily shocked, shocked, I tell you. Diane

They usually include one or two old, largely out of commerce varieties in the mix, like Blossomtime. Those are the ones that suck me back in.

What is this Big Orange I keep reading about on here? Are your Home Depots painted orange in California? I rarely go to Home Depot, either. That's the realm of my son in law. I noticed that Jackson&Perkins is selling Double Easy Orange as a standard. I really want one, but can't imagine where I'd put it, and it isn't cheap--$79.95, plus shipping, for a 24 inch standard. Did you know DOO is a Carruth rose? Why aren't more sellers interested in this? Orange is hot right now, and not just roses. Diane

I thought orange was the signature color of Home Depots everywhere. They even co-sponsored a Zary rose called Orange Passion.

I did not realize Double Easy Orange was one of Carruth’s roses since it was released so recently, thanks for pointing that out. He sure had a string of great roses.

Yup orange and beige Home Depot here in California lol. I think we have a new buyer for our garden center. Im seeing more of a variety of good things; like a climbing hydrangea, weeping Jap Maples, tree wisterias.

Our local HD is certainly very orange - at least all the signs and carts are orange. Their garden center isn't too bad ... they have some nice azaleas, rhododendrons, at least one camellia, and some various decent shrubs and small trees. For roses, though, all I ever see in there is the Knock Out series. I was in there this week and they only had Pink Knock Out. Maybe I am showing up at the wrong time ... every time? I am resigned to buying mail order forever.

I think it's possible your rose could turn out to be Blossomtime, Ben. I looked at my Blossomtime plant and while the leaves are not as glossy there is some gloss. Maybe yours are so glossy due to them being new leaves? Blossomtime is a seedling of New Dawn which is pretty glossy.

Thanks for posting that, Erasmus!! I will at least hold on to the plant until it blooms. Blossomtime was the 1st rose I grew when I was 8 yrs old, so it has some sentimental value for me as well as still being a fine old variety with a particular heady/spicy scent.

Hope Big Orange has some nice stuff for you this spring. I must say the California HDs are far better stocked than elsewhere. They’ll get exotic stuff like dragonfruit, osmanthus, 5 gal jugs of fish emulsion (that impressed me most of all, lol!). I guess because it’s so easy to garden here, more folks are interested in it.

Ben, I love the picture of you at 8 years old planting a rose. Was your family in to gardening? I think that is the coolest thing when kids have that Desire to create beauty through gardening.

I am hoping that Azalea will have that same desire. Somebody will have to take care of all of my roses.

Thanks for the kind words. My family first moved to a house with a yard when I was about 7, and about the first thing my parents planted was a rose, Miss AAB by the front door step. My dad’s work took them all over the world, but 50+ years later mom is in her forever home and still has another Miss AAB by her front door. In my new California home, I planted a Miss AAB by my front door too. I got Blossomtime for my 8th birthday, so it was the 1st rosebush that was specifically mine.

I hope Azalea follows in your footsteps, it’s both a healthy hobby and a great legacy.

Our local Home Depot has a fabulous garden section, and they actually take good care of it! I try to frequent the two locally-owned great nurseries, but I have to admit that I've gotten some really great plants at HD over the years. Our two Ace Hardware stores (both locally-owned) also have great garden sections.

Ben, I bought MAAB for my mom, but always called her Maria Callas, because my mom was a big opera fan. I love your front door tradition :-D

I got a similar Blossomtime from Lowes, and while I haven't treated it the best (I put it in shade while we were in the heat wave) I got my first blooms and I'm really doubting it's Blossomtime

Carla, I think their printer must have just spewed out a plethora of Blossomtime tags, so they decided to inflict them on us.

Mine started out like it actually could be Blossomtime!

But here on a later pic, the foliage, stems, growth seems wrong, and the blooms have only 15 petals

I think I will name this rose ’Scrawny Drift, it has that tiny, shiny Drift foliage. Not sure what to do with it, I can’t give it to anyone whom I might reasonably expect to stay friends with me.

I bought a couple ”Blossomtime” from HD a few years ago, they turned out to be New Dawn. the blooms are light pink

Seeing this thread bumped up, I wanted to mention that my most recent trip to my local Home Depot did in fact turn up some non-Knock Out series roses. :) I didn't buy anything, as my balcony is full up for the season. But it was nice to see some variety. They had Alfred Sisley, Tangerine Skies, Queen Elizabeth, Olympiad, and a few more. So I will give them credit there.

I think you need a Snow White rose to go with your Seven ̶D̶w̶a̶r̶f̶s̶ Drifts. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a white rose in your garden, why is that? That’s probably the real reason the ̶D̶w̶a̶r̶f̶s̶ Drifts are malcontent.

You don't often see 'New Dawn' sold in CA . . . It is said to be troubled by mildew here. In fact, in 4.5 decades, I have seen in exactly ONCE. (And, yes, it was mildewed.)
