I contacted the garden last week, they told me it’s dormant and I should start seeing bloom mid April. What do you think ?

Thats a funny statement! I’ve never seen what I would consider a bloom on our fig trees, the fruit just kind of pops out at the nodes and stem ends. That isn't a very promising looking plant but if you have some kind of guarantee it might be worth giving it some time.

It may or may not be dormant. The photos aren't clear enough to tell for certain but I do think it is alive. But that's not the point. It is badly damaged and pest ridden and has been really badly pruned (look at the snag). Enlarging the picture it almost looks as if that thicker dead snaggly stem is the scion and the shoots are coming from below a graft. But that's hard to verify without seeing the thing in person. I suspect that you may be a beginner and you have been taken advantage of. It shouldn't have been sold to you in that condition. Or, at least, it should have been on the rock bottom bargain table where people who like a challenge can buy casualties to try and nurse them back to health.

No, I'm afraid they don't show the buds, so no help determining life. But they do show what a very poor specimen the plant is. It really should be returned for a refund.

Like mojavemaria and floral have said, there really isn't a flower per se. What you see - and eat - are really the buds/flower capsule with all the pistels and stams in side. A super tiny wasp crawls inside and pollinates it. then it grows up and you get to eat it. Once in a great while one will open up... and I guess you 'could' call this a flower: (?) This is from one of my trees:

The advice is still the same: take it back! ! ! You may not like conflict, but you can do better.,, much better.

Return it. It has froze and cracked. It may live and strugle for a while. It may come up from the roots, they do, even if killed to the ground. I would not pay for one that has that problem.

What variety is it and what is your zone?

Actually, (concerning the photo), this would be the seed pod opening up to disperse the seeds by attracting wildlife to eat and distribute.

Celeste is very good and Brown Turkey is very good. I am zone 7b Alabama. It should NOT look like that.

Chicago Hardy fig is even better!

Sandy.... return it asap....or throw it away...it's heavily damaged...it's bug infested...and I would report the seller to your local county AG office for selling big infested damaged goods..

A little late for the game but seeing that peeled back/missing bark and insect holes at the base the seller should be ashamed. Even at half price it would be a gamble for survival, but as has been mentioned above if the roots survive it may send up new shoots over time. My figs (1 is Celeste) show their first signs of life on the stem tips, it almost resembles tiny green asparagus tips, just smoother.

How long ago did you purchase this?

Looks like insect damage to me as well - and it looks like the damage may have been on wood already dead and decaying - bummer!

And you can try scraping a tiny bit of bark off to see it's green underneath, but even if it is, that tree may be in decline anyway. I'd return it too - hope they didn't charge you very much...

Has it shown any life yet? Even if that trunk is dead, there is a chance that healthy sprouts might arise from the roots. I'm in zone 6b, latitude 38 degrees and my fig has yet to put up new growth. It always has to regrow after winter kill of the trunks.
