Biggest problem likely to be rabbits and deer, and sometimes groundhogs. If your raised beds are high enough, deer are likely to be the main problem. Don't worry about birds or squirrels or chipmunks. The latter can be a problem in some cases, but not a major worry.

I agree about birds and small rodents not being a big problem. For me squirrels mostly like to dig holes. Our problem is possums and raccoons. They'll burrow under or destroy netting. Big bites out of melons. For us, traps are the answer.

In my experience birds can be a big problem for berries, but not for vegetables. In the case of berries, you might need bird netting to be assured of getting much of a harvest. That was the case when I gardened blueberries in the PNW.

I should also add that (at least for urban pests, who grow up to be pretty fearless and street-smart) things that make noise and smells are pretty useless as repellents. Those kinds of things are recommended up the kazoo, but in my experience, they JUST DON'T WORK.

You will lose some of the buds just by natural selection. They fall off all by themselves.

Depends on where you live. Squirrels in my yard will strip nearly clean apricot, peach, plum, and almond trees just before fruit is ripe. They also do a fairly large hit on apples, avocados, and citrus.

Birds are tolerable here. A peck or two. The resident scrub jays like loquats but prefer them when they are over the hill.

Do you have any pets? Cats and dogs can make garden visitors less comfortable...

Grackles and mockingbirds like to peck my tomatoes. I finally figured out that I needed to get rid of the birdbath that was right next to the garden, and haven't that issue since I did, but never say never...

We don't have them here, but chipmunks prefer seeds, nuts and fruits, to green veggies, I believe. They're just tiny ground squirrels, after all, so eat pretty much the same things.

We have possums, and I learned the hard way that they apparently like broccoli and will gnaw down an entire plant.

The only rodents I have to worry about here are Asian roof rats ☹️
