lets see the whole room. it might be a matter of introducing more lamps but I cant tell where to put them. also moving to a single arch lamp with a longer arm might help. I would also consider a lighter colored area rug to help brighten it up.

the sofa table behind the sofa should be long, then put two lamps on it, and a large print in the middle. even if you have to use two small tables and butt them together. but again we need to see the whole room.

The house I grew up in had three to five lamps in the different living areas and two or three in every bedroom. And end tables or side tables to put things on. Why doesn't anyone use lamps anymore? So often rooms are posted with one central fixture and 0-1 lamps and people wonder why they are poorly lit. Not picking on you in particular, just a comment in general. But you need to either add more ceiling lighting or have lamps strategically around the room for good lighting.

I agree with you- but I can't change the ceiling lighting (without spending a fortune on installing can lighting) so trying to work with what I can do on my own. So that's why i'm looking for suggestions :)

you would do well to add a rug. personally I would set the room up so different
