Ogon is a good choice. A completely different looking shrub from Magic Carpet and with completely different coloring. But I find it to be equally impactful in the landscape. It has narrow, chartreusey-gold leaves spaced out on pretty much vertical stems providing a wispier, finer textured appearance from MC. And I much prefer the white flowers with gold foliage than the Pepto Bismol pink of MC. It will develop orange coloring in fall (instead of in spring) that it will hold well into winter in my climate.

Both spiraeas will be similar in size but Ogon's growth habit will push it slightly taller.

I love Ogon, but in my experience it gets anywhere from 5-6 plus feet tall, much larger than the Magic Carpet spirea. In its favor, it leafs out long before any other plant in my garden or in the woods, and the leaves last long after every other leaf has fallen. Then the leaves turn a soft, lovely orange color.

There's a blueberry with orange foliage. Orangena, I think is the name. You can also find pretty ninebarks. Not a shrub, but limelight heuchera is pretty neon. Mines already looking good in Maine.

Thank you Sigrid. I planted a small bed of all native shrubs like ilex verticillata etc and realized it looks very bare and twiggy. Trying to add some early color and structure because it is looking rather bare right now.

gardengal48 (PNW Z8/9) do the caramel colored Spireas reseed like the plain garden varieties do? Thank you
