sette at a round dining table?

Ignore the chairs shown in the photo of the table. Trying to decide if this sette works with this table. Going for a casual eclectic vibe. Am curious if anyone has an opinion from experience on whether bench setting works with a round table in terms of functionality. Table is 54” and sette is 58”. I think that could fit 2 people if needed and I would add 3 more chairs.

I don’t have experience with this sort of set-up, sorry, but wanted to gush over that wonderful settee. It’s fabulous! Get it no matter what, you can surely use it somewhere? :)

(Or do you already have it?)

    The settee is pretty.

My concern is that the settee wants a rectangular table.

For a round table, the two people on the settee are going to be struggling to orient to the curve of the round table for comfortable eating. The settee cushioning also may make it harder to move forward/ back a bit.

That’s why you usually see individual chairs for round tables.

In restaurants, when there’s a round table “ booth”, the padded back area seating is usually curved to match the table curve.

If you had a specific layout nook where this was the perfect arrangement, or often only one person sat, or 2 people used settee for coffee time and move table a bit to use as a cafe table, that might be a reason to have this setup.

But it doesn’t seem like a way to get the most comfortable arrangement for multiple diners.

It might be too low for comfortable dining but I love the idea of it as a lounge area in a dining room against a wall maybe instead of a buffet table if space is limited. I have a window seat on a wall not used as a dining bench but as a cozy reading area. I also have a mahogony glass door bookcase in my formal diningroom so I like multipurpose dining rooms.

Just posting this funny coincidence … I went to IG right after reading this thread, this was at the top of my Feed. The bench seating longer than the table — to me, it looks like a nice lounging area. I’d stretch out with my coffee and read. Or use it in the room as Roarah describes.

Do it. That's one fabulous settee and will look amazing. It might not be the most ideal approach to seating, but who cares! Some things are worth doing differently.

Ida, thought of you when I saw the plates above! 😍

ETA: Just remembered in Allison’s last house, she had a beautiful settee with oval table. Looked wonderful. Hope she sees this.

Ha! I saw that on IG this morning and love it! ❤️

Yeah. All these are great points and why I am struggling with the decision. In terms of height the sette is 18” and the table is lower then standard. I’m trying to create a multi use dining room because it is def underutilized as a dining room. But hear u. The fact is that it is not ideal for 2 diners as the shape is not ideally conducive. Hoping someone who’s made this choice can comment on its functionality in irl.

If the table is negotiable— getting a different table— then it would seem more natural using the settee.

If you already have the furnishings though, there’s no harm in trying it out, & getting a feel for what works or doesn’t.

I own the table and am considering the sette

Not the best on my phone but if you squint it might help visualize your table with the settee.

I have a Chippendale camelback loveseat with my 48" round dining table. I have two queen anne chairs on the other side. It works for me. I like the look.

This is the whole room for reference. Challenging as it is a walk thru from every angle

Is it insane to flank it under the short wall with the painting?

I love that settee with the kilim rug upholstery. Did you get it at Home Goods? I saw exactly yours there and wished I had the decor to fit it into my house.

IMO, you can make it work...with one caveat. What happens when you sit in the settee at the table. Is the cushion high enough to make eating comfortable?

No, try it. I think it will look great on the short wall. Color off painting is a perfect pairing.

The table height and sette height work. The table is lower than standard

Perfect! You could use a rug to ground the table and chairs. Flip through the Sundance catalog and see how a kilim uphostered sofa is paired with a kilim rug.

Or, pair it with jute...this is an Annie Selke rug.

If you can move the table to where you want it in front of the settee I can photoshop in the settee. this is the best i can do with the table in the center.

I don’t understand roarah…u just out here making people’s days?!

Is the angle too weird? The room isn’t wide enough to get a great shor

Love it! I have a settee at my round dining table and love it. We use it all the time. My grandchildren love sitting on it as do adults. Go for it.

    @roarah

Can you tell me what app you are using on your phone?

    Thanks!

Tell more about what it’s like to sit on it.

Are those tufted areas towards the end of the cushion and if so, is that comfortable, or does one tend to sit in the middle?

I think some of it depends on whether you’re counting on the settee for daily dining and whether counting on it to seat 2 people. Because then you need to pay more attention to the practical aspects.

Versus, is it more decorative— which it is, pretty— orcseating one person or being used for non- dining a fair amount.

I use “Pages“and layer the pictures and use the remove blackground feature to put the furniture infront of the room. “Remove background”use to be instant alpha on my older phone :) you can rotate objects too.

Do you mean Microsoft Word? Typically I use Paint on my PC but I am often on my iPad or phone and want something I can use on those.

I'll be the wet blanket. I suspect two people are not going to want to sit together on that fab-looking setee. First, they will both have to sit on the seams which look quite deep rather than on the center of the cushion. Second, they will have to twist themselves to bring their body even with the round table. While it would look very cool, I don't think it would be comfortable for your guests. Form or function?
