I used a saw tooth bread knife...which I don't recommend, unless you wear gloves. I cut myself probably no less than 50 times. However if you have access to a band saw and a pair of tongs to feed it through that would probably be easier and safer. It was a labor of love, for sure, but I've been so happy with the outcome!

I just glued my corks to the wall without cutting. It was not fun to remove when I had to sell my house.

Sonja, I love your idea for the backsplash. I was considering sealing some of my favorite wine labels onto tile, but now you have me thinking about using the corks. Did you seal your corks?

Gay, why did you remove them when you sold your house? Also, did you scan and print copies of the labels?

I didn't seal them and haven't had any problems with my backsplash period since I installed it 3 years ago. I love it as much today as I did when it was finished. Maybe consider framing special wine labels within the backsplash, as I did my Ansel Adams post card collection, to get the best of both ideas?

Do you have an idea how many corks it took you to do this?

It takes about 40-50 corks per square foot, I used less because I did the cork around the picture frames.

what did you use to cur the corks in half?
