Like that buckeye tree! Coming from a Buckeye, though not native born. "The buckeye was named the state tree of Ohio in 1953. The term buckeye has widely been used to describe residents of Ohio in general since the mid 1800s. It became popular when supporters of William Henry Harrison's successful presidential campaign carved souvenirs out of buckeye wood."

A Buckeye tree in Mississippi?! I would never have thought of such a thing..... My father came back from a business trip in Ohio when I was a child and brought me back a buckeye, telling me it was considered good luck. I treasured that buckeye for many many years afterwards. Maryl, I think there are lots of different kinds of buckeye trees. Mantis will have to share what kind is prevalent in Ohio. This one is native here. I actually got this one from the woods behind my house. My brother owns some hilly land and we call one of those hills Buckeye Hill as it has hundreds on it-quite a sight in spring. And yes, I knew you would like the yellow iris!!

Yay for the beginning of your daylily season! That golden yellow iris is gorgeous! I've never seen one like it. Do you know the name of it? Also with the yellow iris there's a weed with little white flowers. Do you know what that's called. I have hundreds and hundreds of those this year all over the yard. I used to have only a few on one side of the house.

I have debated on getting Riot on the Kindergarten Bus, I did not realize it is an early one. I haVE heard it blooms a lot. I do have Dumortieri blooming, started last week, but I think that freeze we had a couple weeks ago made the scapes extra short and can't really get a good picture.

Nancy, Riot is early. It has never performed the way I would like to see as it usually gets knocked around by a late freeze.

Debra, I have no idea about the name of the iris. It is bright and pretty. I got it from a friend who got it from a friend. So it truly is a pass along plant! I put a picture of the weed through my phone plant id app and it identified it as Southern Chervil. I call it Southern Pesky! I have a lot of them this year too.

Your buckeye seems to be the red buckeye. We have that one too, though the Ohio Buckeye has greenish yellow flowers. Red buckeye is a smaller tree here.

The golden iris is beautiful no matter what its name! Thanks for trying to ID the weed. I'm not sure my weed is Southern Chervil. I found an extensive article about it with photos of all parts, and the seed heads and basal foliage are not the same shape as what I have. I forgot to say how much I liked your clematis pictures.

Debra: I have that weed around too. I call it carpet weed. The leaves and little white flowers look similar to Kate's picture. You might want to google that to see if it fits............Maryl
