Exterior makeover

I think we’ve decided to paint our brick home white and replace the windows with black frame windows, but looking for ideas on how to improve the overall appearance. Any ideas or sketches anyone can come up with are greatly appreciated!

I like your front door and the color. Your entry and landscaping definitely need a boost. I'd post your pics in the landscaping forum as well.

What is the purpose of the white pieces in the roof peaks?

Take the white parts of the existing house and make them into a true gable ends. I think that would improve the looks of your house tremedously. I think the white painted brick look is going out. Would you consider Off-white with SW French gray trim? A neighbor just did that, and it’s classic.

I don't believe in painting brick unless it's particularly unattractive, and yours isn't. Do you really want to turn a no maintenance surface into a surface that requires maintenance? You do need to do something about the white areas. If you can remove some of the brick to make them more like true gables that would help, or paint them medium gray, along with the garage door. It looks like your roof is gray. Darker wood, black or charcoal gray front door. The windows could be black if that's what you want.

I am all for painting ugly brick but your is simple and quite nice - your highest ROI on money spent will be on your landscaping (if you are willing to paying for new window then there's $$ to spend on professional landscaping, which would be fabulous)

Once the yard is lush, lovely and well maintained you could still decide on whether you still want to paint an/or make changes to the house

The white boxes at the roof pitches are vents and there is no brink under them.

Can you enlarge the white boxes to the roofline to make it look more like a gable? Or better yet, take off the boxes and put up siding with a vent?

Make the front a true gable end.

    Maybe a close-up will help.

The front door is not centered with the roof peak.

It would be so nice if you actual took a picture that allowed us to see the color of your home.

You could limewash or mortarwash the brick and allow some of the brick color to peak through. Not sure black windows are necessary

The white part can be extended to fill in the entire triangle. Over the door, the extensions would need to be built out so that they were in plane with the rest of the white-- but totally doable. Once you have the triangle all sided, paint it a dark colour that co-ordinates with your brick and roof. Then your house will stop looking like it has giant patches on it and you won't need to paint the (very nice) brick.

Even if you choose not to build out the vent covers to full gable size, painting them a dark colour will help immeasurably.
