I follow Laurel Bern (Laurel Bern Interiors) on her blog. IIRC, she is currently working with Crown Point for her own kitchen remodel. If you emailed her, I think she replies to questions, even though she isn't taking clients at this time.

Their cabinets are gorgeous. i used their Prairie line as inspirstion for my kitchen remodel but i used a local cabinet maker. The doors were designed by my designer and executed by the local shop.

I have read Laurel Bern before - I will check her out - thank you! Helen, their cabinets look gorgeous - I'm thinking they're less expensive than other high end. The local cabinetmakers I have checked buy their doors from some door factory nearby so there isn't room for customization, which is very disappointing. The other local offers only certain doors and buys his cabinet bases. They are both 'semi-custom', is what I would call them. I have been to kitchen stores in Atlanta - have yet to check out the local cabinetmakers down there. Thank you!

Their quality is top notch. So is their pricing. Since you are doing a 500K level remodel, that IS the level of cabinets that you should be working with.

I certainly hope it doesn't come in as high as $500K!! Thanks for all the input. My feeling also is that the house needs the elevation. Plus, some of the things we want in the kitchen, like a coffee bar cabinet with sliding doors (to the side), need to have a custom shop.

I need to phrase that more correctly. We actually combined two rooms into one by removing a wall. Then the ceiling/drywall was removed to expose the rafters. A beam was put in, and now the ceiling goes up to the roofline. So, I should have phrased it differently. I'll post floorplans tomorrow. 1/3 the overall budget......yeah, that's about what it will be, and we added a screened in porch with a roof when we redid the decks. And added a sliding glass door from the new screened in porch to the kitchen. It's partially done. I'll add pics tomorrow as well.

We used Crown Point’s Crown Select line. The cabinets are well made and we enjoyed using their expanded color choices. Ask about their options, Julia was a joy to work with, loved the finishes.

IMO get a n independant kitchen designer and as for the cabinets I have noexperience with them but if you have checked them out in person and find them the quaility you are looking for get them. I have no idea why a coffee bar needs a sliding door and those types of custom things are big $$$$ and should be thought through before spending the money. I spend the money on appliances and the cabinets for me have always been Ikea great value , good warranty and I have done many Ikea kitchens and have had one warranty issue in 22+ yrs.BTW have done them is very high end homes too.You do not tell us anything about the style of your home or the reason you chose this company I think if you have been happy with the product you have seen in person go for them if they fit the style and the budget

Crown Point is very expensive. They do have a slightly less expensive line that still gives you a fair amount of customization options, which is worth considering. For my small kitchen, that less expensive line would have run about $50-55k, so figure at least $60-65k for their main line. I am using a local cabinetmaker instead, and am very happy with that decision from a quality, price, flexibility, and convenience standpoint. But finding a reputable local cabinetmaker can be hard if you live somewhere that doesn't have a lot of high-end renovation work, which I think is part of the appeal of Crown Point and similar lines. I am in the NYC suburbs where there is no shortage of quality cabinetmakers.

I have looked at Crown Point's less customizable line and am going to use it where I can. I live near Atlanta and there are plenty of high end kitchen stores in that area, although it is a bit of a drive for us - and them. We live in lake environment north of Atlanta. The 'cabinetmakers' around our home that have been recommended have been lacking in one way or another. I have visited several kitchen shops in Atlanta - a couple have been to the house to evaluate - "didn't realize you were so far!". It has been discouraging, not to mention confusing. We have had professionals look at our plan. The local guys will just "do whatever you want" but I have to give them specific details. Crown Point will do that kitchen designing part for me, which is a lot of the appeal.

The house was built in 1973 with trendy 'barn finishes', and then refinished more formally (terracotta foyer covered with marble, rustic beams covered with finished lumber, etc) by the next owner. So, I can't really describe the style since it has been altered, but started with 70s trends. In that vein, the kitchen is isolated from the lake views, and there is a sunken living room. Providing the kitchen with views as well as enlarging it have been the main priorities.

" Crown Point will do that kitchen designing part for me." Correction, they will do a cabinet plan for you, to sell you their cabinets. Totally not the same thing as a kitchen design, or what a kitchen designer does. Maybe 1/3 of a kitchen design.

I would def get a kitchen designer or contractor who can connect you to trusted custom sources they have used and who are going to be more responsive when working with an industry professional. Keep in mind, the price for Crown Point does not include installation, which you can figure at, IDK, $5-10k at least?

Hi Michelle, Wondering what you ended up doing about your cabinets. I'm reading this conversation a year later so assuming you've completed the project and I'd love to know if you went with Crown and if so your review. We are in a small beach town in Fl and found Crown for the same reasons you did - lack of quality cabinet makers in area and those that do build custom are super pricey (it doesnt help that we're not far from Palm Beach) so the makers are able to charge triple (one bid came in at $450,000 not even kidding my husband about died b/c it was the first bid 😆 the other quotes for the semi-custom were still high for lack of quality). We're hoping to find an installer (no clue how much that will be - hate the unknowns) as our GC is wary of us ordering Crown because theyve never used them. We've been working with Julie and do love her - thinking we'll do the Crown-Point in kitchen and use Select for butlers pantry, laundry/mudroom. Did you use them for any bathrooms? Thank you and anyone else who wants to chime in for any suggestions or reviews!

Eleanor, yes, we went with Crown Point, for the exact same reasons as you. We are very happy!! Received lots of compliments from the installer and others. They are heavy and well built! The y function well and we love them! I am unable to post pictures right now but I will next week. We did no uppers (save $, have large kitchen, wanted windows instead), so we used almost all drawers below. Love the drawers!

We area renovating so haven't gotten to the laundry or bathrooms but plan to use Crown or Crown Select for those.

I can give you some more details on what we did and some recommendations. Overall, about the best contractor we dealt with, and excellent quality!

Hi Eleanor, thought I’d chime in to say that my parents installed crown point cabinets in their house in 2002. They have a painted finish, and they still look great.
I also live in south Florida not far from Palm Beach and when I built in 2003, I didn’t have much choice in the area either (Home Depot or Smallbone) I got a price from crown point for a med. sized kitchen and pantry using a painted finish. The bid then was a little over $110,000. Not including installation. I ended up picking another independent cabinet maker based in VA who my architects were hot to trot about. That bid, exact same layout was $10,000. less and did include installation.
My finish doesn’t look anything like my mother’s- but my household is much tougher on things than hers due to children, more pets etc.
I have already repainted my cabinets once, and really need to do it again, or just replace them.
I wish I had chosen CrownPoint!

Hi AC , I appreciate your reply to my inquiry about Crown Point. That's valuable advice that I will keep in my (and show my husband and GC) when it comes down to finalizing our choice. They (CP) does tout their high durable factory finish so it's good to learn your MIL's is still looking great!

I really do appreciate you chiming back in regarding CP cabinets. We are in limbo right now - I think my builder might kill me - I have had estimates pulled from at least 8 or 9 companies, all local except for CP - from Orlando down to Palm Beach and all in between! The numbers are across the board - but the kitchen install companies no doubt get product from the same place. GC wants to use them for the ease of it, warranty, (and probably kickback). So I shook the trees and found a local guy with great work ethic and I know he's capable but he's also a one man show with some apprentices so it's the unknown that's a bit unerving. May end up doing a mix of CP and having him do smaller rooms and the CP install. Would love to know who you fouind to install CP. Maybe they'd be interested in driving to Melbourne Beach! Also wondering - so our estimate for just kitchen (not butler's pantry or any other part of house) came in between 110-125. No install obv. In your experience how close to your final payment come to the original estimate? I have a feeling that with all the upgrades and cabinent inserts the price can go up pretty fast. Thoughts on that? Was the process easy to custom ize? THanks agai for any intel!

We used our framer for installation. They had a lot of experience installing cabinets. That worked out, but we have learned that you have to watch them.

We got lots of upgrades in the cabinets. Some of them, I have learned you don't really need. Ours came in around $100k and they were worth it. We have a lot of drawers, as I said before. I would definitely do lots of drawers again. And we used the drawer inserts for the utensils and I love those. They also look very nice when you open the drawers. The peg inserts aren't very necessary, as it turns out - the weight of the dishes keeps them from shifting around inside, although if you have more delicate glassware you probably would want them. Those foamy spongy drawer liners help keep things in place and the drawers close slowly and gently, and they are heavy by themselves. Our kitchen designer (Jim Balcom, Crown Point) did a very nice job of balancing the sizes of the drawers etc around the room. He also had recommendations for where to place the slotted cabinets for cookie sheets, cutting boards, and oven accessories.

Our kitchen is very large because we combined two existing rooms, knocking down the wall between them, and it functions extremely well. We are very happy with it! And I still owe some photos.
