Interesting since I've been growing Lucifer for years in the ground. I wonder if it should be spring planted in colder zones. I got it as a passalong from a neighbor, so it was in active growth, and I probably got it in the spring (it was a long time ago)

Yup @mad_gallica (z5 Eastern NY), I was a bit surprised that it hadn't made it through the winter that time.

Planting it in the spring, (like one is recommended to do for buddleja in colder zones) is a good idea.

So this same potted Lucifer has grown vigorously since I brought out the pot in April. Here it is today.

My question, never having grown a crocosmia before...I guess I am a bit surprised to see a flower stalk now in bloom but with no sign of any other flower stalk in development on this reasonably sized single plant. At some point there will be more happening simultaneously?

It is looking good rouge. It may flower more in the pot but it would flower much more if it were in the ground.

No not yet. I look forward to them every year, as do the hummingbirds.

My Lucifers are just coming into bloom now in upstate NY (5b). I seem to forget every year that the flowering stalks always take me by surprise, emerging from the foliage very suddenly and then bursting into bloom usually no more than a week later.

I saw this clump of Lucifer in a public garden recently. It was flopped over, past its prime but it was easy to imagine that it would have been gorgeous.
