I think you need a nuetral wood color, lighter than your cabinets. Bring home some samples and look at them in your lighting and up against your cabinets and fireplace since those items won't change. Get the flooring installed first, and then choose your wall color. Rainwashed is a grayed green that may not work with your other tiems. You might need a lighter or warmer tone instead.

Why are you doing this project?

If you're not prepared to completely remodel the kitchen including appliances, then IMO you're on the wrong track and going to waste a lot of money.

For the time being, I'd remove the wallpaper and then paint the walls, but not the light green color you have selected. The space demands a much stronger deep color scheme so that it isn't completely foreign to your den that it's linked to it. Consider using the blue in your sofa for inspiration in selecting colors.

Get a better furnishings arrangement for the den. I can tell by the random angled sofa that the furnishings layout could be improved upon.

Bring the colors from the den into the kitchen. That will go a long way to linking the rooms visually

Unless there is a filter on your camera, that handsome sofa would never be called aqua.

I would go with Sherwin Williams Pewter Cast on the cabinets.

I am no pro. This probably be what I would do since keeping your black appliances and white countertop.

Coordinate your flooring with the cabinet stain — I’m thinking a classic mid-tone brown. No gray!!

Rainwashed is a great color — I painted the walls in my last kitchen using it. But it is a lot of color to use in connecting rooms. Maybe look at Sea salt instead, altho it leans more green.

I like the warm white shown in Beverly’s mock up, at least for the dining and living area.

Thanks to all who responded to my question.  Maybe you can help me further. I've decided that I may not want the laminate in my kitchen, breakfast nook, and laundry room.  Instead of using the laminate in my whole downstairs, I am thinking about using LVT in my kitchen, breakfast nook, and laundry room.  I don't want a wood look in those areas.  The rest of the downstairs will be a light to medium brown laminate.  Any ideas about style and color.

What is wrong with your tile? It looks to be in decent shape. The color is fairly neutral and it works with your cabinets. To me, vinyl is a downgrade from tile.

Have you considered doing the den in hardwood? Budget wise, replacing the carpet with hardwood and leaving the tile could be a wash.

Is there a reason to replace the tile? Is it the same in kitchen and dining nook? I think it plays well with everything else you are keeping. If there is some reason to replace it, I agree avoiding wood look would be best and I'd look for something similar to what is there now.

Beverly, not everyone remodels their kitchen - ever in their lives. Some people will never have the disposable income to do it, or will not want to prioritize their $ for that. Some people are satisfied with what they have and aren't chasing the latest trends or looks when what they have works fine for them.

I would probably update the cabinet hardware at some point. Either put down new carpet or replace that area with wood or wood look something. Then you will probably need an area rug, so I'd probably just replace the carpet.

Without seeing a layout drawing on how these spaces connect or flow together, perhaps you need to consider how the different floorings will connect if not the same height. Only saying because I hate the look of having transition pieces in open spaces that should flow together easily. Looks like your den, breakfast nook and kitchen all run together so these should probably be the same floor choice. Suggest you consider not having the cabinets control your flooring choice, with the idea you could save to have them painted later. Your furniture colors are beautiful and will be easy to coordinate accent colors, rugs, etc. later so I wouldn't worry about those so much. Flooring should enhance the permanent things in the spaces and blend with furniture, Before the new flooring is installed, consider removing all the wallpaper and borders and prime those walls. It will help you reimagine and see your wall and trim paint samples better to select those colors last.

@Deborah Stalnaker I can't tell if you are asking for wood look or not.  If you want wood look, I would go with a color darker than your cabinets. Be ready to choose area rugs. That will be fun!

I should say I once had a beautiful kitchen with blue walls, red oak cabinets, blue and white checked tablecloth, delftware and vinyl flooring the color of dark and milk chocolate. Was really wonderful!

Beeboo22 you said that you painted your kitchen Rainwashed.  What color does it look like in your home?  Blue or green?

Hi Debra! We sold that home but here’s a pic. It looked very in-between to me in a good way, but leaned more blue. I think it’s a lovely color. We had very low natural lighting and wall colors always tinged green and gray so I leaned into it and painted most of the rooms some shade of blue or green. Rainwashed has enough depth to look light and bright in poor lighting without looking sad, if that makes sense.
