I'd like to set up my desk and chair such that there is a wall right behind the chair. However, this means the chair occasionally hits the wall and damages it when I push the chair back to get out of it. What can I put on the wall to protect it from getting damaged?

It doesn't need to look aesthetically perfect, but hopefully not something that looks awful either. It would need to protect the entire area of the wall behind the chair. I tried with weatherproofing tape at a couple of places, but that doesn't work.
