We bought a house and it had a whole wall of brick (that the last owner did a terrible job of painting) and no mantle. We took all the brick off and I want to do some sort of stone, marble, tile around it (10 inches around) and then have a very simple wood design. Nothing too ornate and then top it with a natural wood piece….3 inches maybe? The first picture is where we are now.

My question is what material to use for the stone, tile….etc. We took out two walls so this room opens directly to our large kithen with a 9’ island that is white and will likely have some sort of quartz, marble ….. mainly white with some gray.

The opening you see on the right comes from the entry foyer and the opening on the left is where we took out a built in bookshelf and made an opening ot the dining room. In this opening, we also removed a china closet on the other side and we will now have a wine fridge in the right area and on the left will be a glass cabinet with our stemware. The cabinets in this wine bar area are a deep blue green that is almost gray black when you see it in differnt lights. I am uploading a pic of the color on bottom.

The second picture shows how I want the natural wood to contrast with the other wood…but I don’t want brick around it and not neccessarily the design of the sides.

The third picture shows how I want it to be framed out above the mantle, and our TV will go above it. (i know some people hate that….but that is what we want)
