Hail is so unpredictable and could come even after Mother's Day. You took your shot. Did you get big hail?

I somehow avoided it this time. And I say this time, because statistics are not on my side. My time can still come. I got some on April 25 before most plants were really leafed out. But there's not much that is quite as soul-crushing to the Colorado gardener than getting that big hail after all the big leaf plants are leafed out and/or blooming and your yard looks like it's been through a salad shooter.

I have a lot of old canes out there still and they didn't protect my roses. So, you know. Just food for thought.

MMMM you are not the only one who pushes their luck. I too looked at the 10 day forecast and thought, well why not? Put some tomatoes out under water-tipi protection and then...yesterday I planted the corn and pole beans. I figured the rain would be good to get them started.

Will they sprout? I do not know. But as long as there is extra seed, you can always plant again in a couple of weeks and you're no worse off!

Of course we can get hail all summer. I remember one during the first week in August (this would be 1997 or so) that decimated my squash crop.

The 10 day forecast seems to have been way off. There was maybe one rain day today, Thurs. But the rest was all nice weather and much warmer than it has been.

I got 8 roses pruned over the weekend. Almost half done. I've gotten 2 1/2" of rain over 2 days and it hailed twice Tuesday night, 6 hours apart. I'm so glad I didn't get to the rest. I'd love to send you some rain mmmm12!

We've had constant rain. Not sure how much. Thankfully nothing damaging.
