DH took the first picture below when he was passing by today. We once talked to the man whose father planted it - probably 80-100 years ago! There used to be a building behind that fence but the building was torn down about 20 years ago and the vine mostly abandoned. We always check how well that vine is blooming as an indicator of what ours is likely going to do - we keep ours small and pruned hard (we cut the back half off completely last fall as it was starting to block a path...) There was a frost warning here last night but it didn't happen. I had taken pictures yesterday afternoon of some of our things in case they got fatally 'frosted' last night....

A Chinese wisteria does most of its blooming before the foliage emerges but Japanese ones bloom as or after the foliage emerges, so our Japanese one is just starting the extension of its flowerbuds but should be in full bloom as the Chinese one is finishing.
