Garage door opener keypads

I don't really understand why I seem to have more issues with garage door opener remotes and keypads. Just using my Chamberlain's built in receiver, I would find reliability issues and needing to be very close to the garage door. So, I wired a remote receiver just inside my garage door so that I could presumably have better reliability outside the door. With not the greatest results. I've had a keypad on the outside of the garage door just 2 feet away from the receiver on the inside of the garage and sometimes it works and sometimes not. I've changed batteries. Changed the entire keypad. Sometimes works, sometimes not.

Thinking about maybe trying a totally different route, I bought a Beam brand wi-fi garage door opener. It forgets the wi-fi and stops working. ARRGH!!!

I'm thinking about trying something with Apple Homelink. I've never used that technology. What about that? And if that works, I wouldn't necessarily need a keypad anymore since I could use the phone. But I'm still thinking of having a keypad in case my phone is dead or something. Is there a Homelink keypad that could work?

Or maybe I just have a bad remote receiver? Is there any particular brand/model of garage door receiver generally known to be reliable?

I have a Chamberlain that has exhibited erratic remote behavior for some years ... increasing around the time I changed the light bulbs on it to LED, I have not tested changing back to incandescent or CFL. I don't have an exterior keypad. The wired button panel inside at the garage side-door always works. The local garage door guy told me several years ago that the receiver module gets weak with aging. It's 19yo now, so there's that.

For about $30-$40 you can get a garage door opener that attaches to the controller on your motor and operates from an app on your phone. It takes about 5 minutes to install. I've been using two of these units for the last 4 years with no problems. As far as I'm concerned, a key pad is redundant, unnecessary, and not secure. Unless you let your phone battery die regularly and there is no other door into your house, I'd just go with the opener and ditch the keypad.

The remote mounted outside is a transmitter only. It does not receive signals transmitted by the remote in your car.

I started to have opener problems using the remotes. Internet search revealed that some LED's can cause interference with the radio signals from the remote to the opener. But I had an old CFL in it. Removed the CFL and have not had a problem since. CFL have some electronics in them as do LEDEs. YMMV
