Thanks, but the stain is not new and it is time to redo or paint. Yes, I was thinking about doing the door green this time to match the trim.

Adding another tone of brown would add a bit of variety in it. Just out of curiosity is that metal roofing? I have always liked the colored roofing but haven't know if it is metal or shingles.

It is shingle, although metal roofing comes in colors.

This comment may come too late, but we have a green metal roof house, very similar in color to yours, with cedar lap siding, as well. Our center area is also peaked like your home. We built and stained it 14 yrs ago in semi-solid Cabot's Barn Red (2 coats), with white painted trim on all the windows and exterior posts. We are just now having to re-stain the siding for the first time. I still love the colors to this date, too, as do all the neighbors. The fascia boards along where the gutters are, are all painted to match our forest green roof. The only thing I might have considered changing is to use a creamier white color...a little to the butter color side, on the windows, but the white really pops on the barn red, and I'm happy with it, as well.

Unless you have an aversion to rustic reds, you will not be disappointed. This scenario would look beautiful on your home.

If you can't re-stain, then I would suggest a neutral color. The green roof is plenty of color! Try a warm grey.

I think a warm tan with a little red undertone to create a light version of cedar would look great. If you wanted a second tone it could be a little darker under the porch which would give a greater sense of depth and contrast nicely with the entry door. A lighter tan/cream for the trim would give it a greater sense of dimension to the final product.

I think you keep the stained look. You have a beautiful house so why try and change it?

I would think that the stain would be much less maintenance than any paint. Your house is beautiful and I love the green shingles and trim. You could do a shade of red for the door to perk up the look. Add some red flowers in the landscape. Put red cushions on the chairs too, or at least something else red on the porch. Good luck!
