If you're concerned about the decking being too hot for fido's feet in summer, you should be looking for something other than composite decking, in my opinion.

Is it covered? My SIL's south facing uncovered trex deck got crazy hot in the summer. No bare feet on that baby.

We decided to go with the Lineage level which supposedly stays cooler in the sun, though their is a warning that the surface will still be hot in full sun. Just my luck that we’re going to have a hot summer in the PNW.

We have timber tech old hickory and love it. No fake wood grain and we love the color. It gets so hot in summer I can’t walk on it barefoot. My Yorkie will lay on it in full sun midday.

Our Trex was covered in last house. This one it gets Sun until 3ish and we live in SC. Can’t let our dog walk on it when full sunshine. Wish someone had told us.

The cheaper trex decking lines scratch and scuff more easily and in general are less hard wearing than some of the nicer stuff. I don't know about heat, but using a rug might be the trick to make walking on it possible for your dog if it's going to be in the sun.

We are using rugs but can’t cover the entire area and steps unfortunately.
