Boxy house help!

I have big dreams and a small budget! Would love to replace this vinyl siding with board and baton, but with budget I might have to paint the siding instead. Is it ok to paint vinyl siding? I’m thinking either a sage green or dark gray with natural cedar shutters and posts. Also a shelter over the side door. I would love to hear your ideas!
