You’re going to create more problems if you try tiling to the ceiling with those beams. Reconfigure the tv area as Beverly suggested, and maybe take off the mantle altogether.

I would keep fireplace as is and tile it and add simple mantle. Issue wanting to tile to ceiling with beams up top. Beautiful space, look forward to seeing how it turns out!

Nothing about those bookcases says fancy lobby. The finishes might be beautiful, so remove them carefully and give them away or sell them to someone who wants that vibe in their home. It sounds like they fight against what you are looking for.

Make a fireplace surround that is painted or tiled in the same color you intend your walls to be. A dramatic fireplace is going to fight with these beams. Make the architecture of the space feel seamless and instead play up the grandness and lobby feel with plush and lux furnishings, lighting, window treatments, rugs, plants, and other decor. A simple fireplace with higher end decor around it is going to look much better than any concept of a high end fireplace.

A hotel lobby would have a seating area dedicated to the big roaring fireplace. The TV viewing area would be a separate seating area.

I think you need to provide more info as to how you will use this spac e. Hotel lobbies are wonderful for a short time visit but not really liveable . Give us a clue as to how this space will be used for your family and entertaining style that will get you some good help. THose cabinets are IMO not working at all with the beams in the space so maybe start there and remove those . The FP is massive and IMO proprtional to the space on the bottom but the wood trim is all wrong. BTW just because people throw money at design does not make it good design. How high are the ceilings along the walls ? Can you post a to scale floor plan of the whole space include all windows doorways where those lead. Every measurement clearly marked and that FP size for sure.Post here in jpeg do not start anoter post just add in comments.

Instead of “ hotel lobby “, perhaps what you are envisioning are multiple seating areas for different functions, some bigger, some cozier.

To do that you’ll have to understand the wall space ( re: TV) and entry points, walkway areas that need to be kept clear, doors, windows.

You need some vision for that before you start creating focal points and more detailed changes.

Your wall color is doing little to highlight the character of your space. White walls would help highlight the wood better.

You might consider taking down the cabinets and bookshelves and placing the TV over a console to the right of the fireplace. We agree painting the walls a lighter white might make the wood pop more. We might suggest leaving the fireplace be though. Please take a moment to look at some of our designs and the layouts used.
