Blank wall when entering

last modified: 3 years ago

seeking help on what to do with this blank wall when you enter my front door. 1980s split level and that wall unfortunately will not be coming down. It stands between our dining and kitchen w/ breakfast (we will eventually get a dining table light ans the lamp will be no more- its just been EVERY room that needs light or a fan but this has been last priority)

edit to add: I had a buffet with wall decor but I believe the room is too small since i opted for a massive table. possibly a smaller buffet? Room is 11ft from wall to window and that wall is 15 ft long table is 42x72

previously with a ”buffet” (dresser) too cramped but maybe it was the wrong size

This TV is so that it turns for viewing in the dining or recessed room

I agree with @Yonder Way Designs that a buffet and mirror would be nice. I don't favor gallery walls; to me they look cluttered head on, they look weird from the side, and they gather dust a busy family doesn't have time for. Not much of a view while trying to eat either. Better for hallways where you can get up close. I like to use the TV distance and height guides for thinking about art. It needs to have an effect from the distance of viewing. A mirror, however, gives the illusion of more space, and the buffet can be used either for storing special dishware OR games for the family to play on that great table, giving that room more use and higher priority... Great place for puzzles!

You have nothing in a lone picture that informs a style......

You have a cabinet in corner that looks odd. You seem to have no serving place, we cant see the dining table and chairs in a whole.

Art !!! and a serving piece of furniture. What piece, what art ? Hard to say. all we see is a wall

You need to post more pics of the room, and what surrounds this room.

IMO art bigger is better and I personally never like family photos on display in public spaces and gallery walls are IMO too busy and really hard to get right one large piece of art hung properly has IMO much bigger impact. I use art.com for clinets if you do not want to go original I do agree we need a bit of an idea of your style but I do not think art is bought to "go with" a space it is bought becuse you love it .

I see no one opting for board & batten which is what i was considering. I dont have a style i just like very plain and shades versus colors because there is usually a ton of chaos with kids and animals and all it is very lived in on a normal day (toys & other stuff all over

It looks like a great space for a slim console table and artwork or a gallery wall. Here are some various designers images that might just help you move forward:

With a table 42” wide and allowing 3’ behind the chairs and bench for people to walk, that totals 9’6” and your 11’ wide room can handle a sideboard no deeper than 18”. A buffet will probably be too wide.

Thanks.i concur we figured out a way to open up the wall BUT it needs to have a 36onch half wall with a base cabinet on the otherside. it will be open where an upper would be not ideal but it works and doesnt cost us 100k!

As for how long the sideboard can be, don’t crowd the glass front display cabs, leave enough room the stand in front of the open doors and not bump into the sideboard. A mirror, or pair of tall mirrors, will reflect the sunlight and view from the windows on the opposite wall.

We opened up the wall and I believe its fine without any decor. Open to recommendations though. Photo is taken from front door angle

*Dont mind the dog bed- its the best spot for our elderly dog to get out the front door

For sure artwork on that wall. Artwork is needed on the wall in your other posting as well.
