I really think you should consider removing box and adding recessed can lights (you don’t need a chandelier there)

IMO the biggest issue in the space take it out patch the ceiling and get some proper lighting in there POt lights can be done easily and all LEDs 4000K will give a ton more light than those crazy flourecent tubes ever did .

Just take that box out and get an electrician to add recessed lighting. You will probably have some drywall work to do, but well worth it. Here are some guidelines. It's time to replace the fluorescent fixture entirely. A new flat LED panel fixture will emit a lot more light sideways, illuminating your upper cabinets and your collection up top of them. There may be a lot of patching of holes from the sturdy anchors needed to install the heavy wood fixture. A large flat LED panel fixture would cover most, if not all, of the old holes, something like below. Many shapes are available.

Once you remove the box, consider the entire room when doing the LED recessed lights, they can be put on dimmers as well. My inside-the-cabinets cooking area is about 9’x12’. I have 9 recessed lights there plus three over the island. (I prefer them to hanging pendants.)

Don’t be worried about too much light. The opposite is worse.

Here is my ceiling. The center lights are on the dimmer.

What type of led lights did you use! Same in both areas? Simms le! Do they have trim? Where to buy? Beautiful!

There is nothing special on my ceiling. Just plain white recessed lights with standard dimmable LED bulbs.
I think they’re 60 watt equivalent. Total 12.

The recessed lights come with the trim.

The trims for LED lights I looked at were ornamental in nature. Hard to find variety of them for can lights or LED thin lights.

So with 11” ceiling would it be “too much” to put the 2 of the flush mount or pendant version of metal palm leaf light at ends of 9’ counter? And obviously get rid of box.

Those hanging lights will add a lot of texture and pizzazz. Great suggestion.

If you still need more lighting, just go to Home Depot for the recessed lights I used.

Yes to home Dept idea. Glad you like those. With can led lights in middle I tho k enough light? That’s are only 60 watt but somehow magic of led outputs more likens?

Using an LED bulb you can get a lot of light from a bulb that uses less wattage. Depending on the number, you can get a bright kitchen with 6 LEDs that give off 60 watts each, but also use a lot less energy. I think our recessed lights are 60 watts (x 9).

Still use the cute wicker fixtures too.

So if you’re still with me on this journey. Let’s recap: I have palm tree statement chandelier over kitchen table I love: see first photo. Dark bronze metal. I have 11’ tall ceilings! I have 9’ Island with grill in middle and monster wood light box above I will remove and put new led “can” lights above grill area and around perimeter of room.

So at ends of island I think will look good with two pendants/chandeliers no more than 12” wide. I have the 3-tier Kira round bronze 3-light (60 watt each) dimmable I like. It is beach coastal with capiz shell and ripple glass. DOES it COORDINATE with palm chandelier okay? If so will go with those.

Also found black metal orbs with white gloves (wish were clear seeded). Neutral enough. Does it coordinate and fit space?

Lastly playing upon crystal LS on palm chandelier is the iron crystal one. May be too hard to clean and too fancy.

So you’re saying I could keep the light box and use an led light tube if I wanted as alternative? That’s interesting.

You can pick up LED light tubes that fit your current fixture at Home Depot or Lowes. I traded all of mine out 5 years ago and the difference in the quality of light is amazing, and it's likely I will never need to replace a burned-out bulb in my lifetime.

Keep everything as simple as possible. If hubby nixed the wicker, why was he okay with the palm leaves?
