I just saw an aricle about growing them! Haven't read it, though.

I bought capers once... long ago. I was at a fancy expensive grocery store near Boston, so I figured I must be buying a decent brand. :p I only remember them tasting like brine, so I often omit capers from recipes where they're called for, or I substitute green olives if it works with the recipe. I read somewhere (cannot swear it's a reliable source) that you can pickle small green nasturtium seeds to use as a substitute.

I love capers and always have them on hand. I’ve only had caper berries a few times and never bought them. As I recall, they had a milder taste to me than the caper buds. I like the Jeff’s Garden capers I get at Sprouts. Not sure if they also sell the berries but will check.

I'm actually more interested in Caperberries:

we got a starter of Olives and Pickles and there were several of these, plus all the cornishons that my GsIL ate up.

I love capers but I really haven't enjoyed any of the caper berries I've tried. Perhaps I just haven't come across the right one.

I like capers a lot - always have, but I don't use them much. Those tiny jars go quick! I like them in pasta salads, and they're a must for chicken piccata, I think.

I've had caper berries - at a very nice restaurant many years ago. I remember thinking they looked a bit like gooseberries with stems.

Thank you, Party. That was interesting. What I have read indicates that many plants are need to get a jar of just the Capers. The berries are much, much larger.

I had a Caper plant growing on the hill in DG at our old house. It lived and flowered, but I never picked the buds, and never saw one berry. I'm sure the critters got those.... like everything else.
