The response from the vendor' horticulturist: "Regarding the trunk, it is not a fresh wound and has already calloused over, and on a young plant like this it should quickly heal over."

I am willing to accept that if in fact it will heal over (fill in) and grow fine, but I'm not convinced that what they sent me was acceptable from a quality standpoint. Almost like getting a used product which you pay less for.

Thoughts everyone? What would you do at this point?

The fact they admit the wound has already callused, means the wound was present before the time they shipped it.

The fact that it will 'heal fine' is debatable. Any entryway to the interior wood is an avenue for rot to enter. Even once healed over, there is a weak spot where there is missing wood in the cavity.

So sure, if rot doesn't occur and you stake the tree for a couple of years, you might not ever know anything was wrong with the tree at shipping time.

How long is the warranty for?

Thats like selling a piece of furnitutre that broke and has been well mended . it should not be sold as ”new and perfect” but ”as is” at a discount.

im appalled they wont refund you the entire amount or at a steep discount.

im surprised it even got on the truck for delivery.

I’d respond ”this is not acceptable. it is defective merchandise. if youve bought there before bring that up. see if they have a Better Business Bureau rating and bring that up. if they are a reputable company they should care.

Thank you all for the support on this. I have asked for a complete refund or a replacement. I'll keep you posted. Typically I shop/support at my local nurseries and don't have this issue.
