where are you.. big city name.. that you have to bring plants in at night in july...???

in nature the pit or seed is dropped on the top of the soil.. and roots down from there.. how deep did you plant your seed in the pot ??

no tree needs water every day.... water a pot when it needs it.. not on some schedule .. it should near dry between waterings... since i dont know where you are.. i dont know how much you have to water.. AZ would be different than ME.. eh??

I would not recommend letting cowpots dry outbetween watering because the material dries up and wicks water away from the rooting medium. In fact, I would remove them from the cowpots and put them in plastic pots. Agree on leaving them outside, perhaps with wire netting over the top to keep animals out.

Regarding the bare root, pictures would help, especially close ups of buds. However, no leaves by July implies death. Unless, of course, you are in the southern hemisphere.
