We live in northern Ontario and have in floor heating in the garage. I think it depends on how you live. If you are never out in the garage except to get in and out of your vehicle then it's probably not worth it. We keep ours at 55F but we also use the work space there during the winter. If it's a big project we just turn the heat up hours or the day before to make it more comfortable. If you store your vehicles/snowblower in there you will need to deal with the melting snow. We just have a big squeegee that we push everything outside. No big deal.

We won't be using it for woodworking etc but have a storage unit we will be accessing and some refrigeration. More than anything my hope is it will melt snow better and allow to maintain a cleaner garage during our messy winters.

What are the attributes you like most and are the utility costs actually lower due to the greater efficiency with the system?

Look into radiant heat panels. It warms up objects, not the air. It’s very efficient. Their popular in Iceland for heating large auditoriums

Life in a climate with eight or more months of "winter" is a messy garage no matter what.

I'd be looking for ways to make it unnecessary to spend more than two minutes in there.

"Accessing storage" of what? "Refrigeration"?

Maybe show the house, does it have a basement and look for other /better ways within the house footprint or extending that instead.Or adding onto the garage in a way to accommodate your need and heating LESS of the garage if at all.

I lived in Calgary for most of my life and our garage was always a cold space . My dad had a workshop in one and one of those gas heaters that he turned on an hour before he used the space and then just turned it off after. The issue of cours is that garage doors really never seal tight so a lot of heat is lost when it is -30c I think if any the radisnt system is probably the best and for sure IMO infloor heating for a garage is huge waste of money A storge unit not an issue and the freezer maybe put that in the basement since most are not made for outdoor use which really is the garage in Alberta.

We want a heated garage. Any opinions on the options to do that?

Mini split. Mitsubishi or Daikin are the best. Best if they are installed with a surge protector

I live in New England and have an attached heated garage. I love getting in a warm car in the morning during cold weather and hitting the garage door opener. My last three vehicles, however, developed major rust quite quickly compared to my husband's vehicles which are parked in an unheated barn. We blame the combination of road salt buildup on my cars in the heated environment. Just something for you to factor into your decision.
