I would consider painting it just like it is. It all goes well together.

I wouldn’t go for any more contrast. You already have four different materials on the facade: siding, brick, cedar shingles and stone. The current siding color works really well with the stone (which is usually the bossiest material to work around). If you go “cool”, look for a value that is much darker than what you have now.

Perhaps Ashphalt by BM, or possibly a nice grey/green would pop nicely.

There are a lot of different styles all mixed together here - Brick + Stone + Cedar + Clapboard Siding + shingle texture; multiple roof styles, window shapes... what this house needs is unity. Removing the cedar and painting the stone and brick would tame down the mismatch. But please not Pandemic Gray.

IMO the shakes do not belong on thta house and neither do the stuck on stones . Waht this house is some simple unity for all the mish mash stuff .To me this is what happens when too much stuff is liked and you try to put it all in a house .Is that the only place there is brick I think I see it in the entry too but hard to tell.

I sincerely appreciate all of the input and advice! I am unable to change or paint the stone and brick. id maybe consider painting the cedar if i can see some mock uo of how it would look. with that, i know theres a lot going on and i love my house but again, really want to get away from the beige and into a different classic neutral color with contrasting trim. i can forget the black, but any solid color recs for painting the siding with contrasting trim and suggestions for garage and entry door colors MUCH appreciated. also uo for recs to paint cedar to make it more cohesive, nut again. stone and brick are non negotiables;). thanks again!

I wouldn’t paint the garage doors black. They could look like big black holes that pull too much focus.

Agree that your house shouldn’t have black. Your existing colors are muted. Here is what I’m seeing in your stone. You do have some cool colors, but overall I see a warm gray, with mauve. I added in some dark cool grays (granite peak and grays harbor) that do tend to work well with some warm neutrals. The Colonnade Gray is a warm gray - it’s actually very similar to what you have on the siding now. I think if you used a solid stain on the cedar that’s the same as your siding and stone it would help to blend in that element and reduce the visual noise.

It’s important to think about the fixed elements on your house with picking a paint color, not just “what you want.” Color is relative, and it needs to relate to the other elements to look good. For you, that’s the roof, the brick, the stone and the cedar (although that color can be changed easier than the other items) and your windows (may or may not be easy to change). Your inspiration pic is a completely different animal - it only has stone and a gray roof, with white trim. The black garage doors do not complement it, those would be better a dark charcoal or the body color of the first floor of the house.

that's a lot of diff materials! If you did a slight limewash or mortar was over the stone, you'd elimate a portion of those lavender gray colors

Sorry, I hit post to soon. I know you like cooler gray tones, but I will say as a caveat, your house likes warmer gray tones. Nonetheless, here’s some ideas for you. The top two I would use as body and trim, in that order. The bottom two are for your front door area. The violet would pull in some of the stone color, while the blue is a near complement to the cedar shakes. I wouldn’t use both - just choose one.

You CAN change those materials, you just don't WANT to.

That's fine, it's your house - paint it all battleship gray if that is what you like.

Folks are just offering their opinions. Personally I'd embrace the Postmodern medley of materials by painting each a different color. Michael Graves does this with panache.

Lime wash is great for stone/brick color changes. You will still see some of the color of the brick and stone since it’s a “wash”, but it would help unify the brick and stone. Think about your trim color also - do you want to keep what you have or change it? I have used Romabio and it is a great product. Take a look at their website. Their blog has some examples of how different colors look. The first one below is Riposo beige. With the medium toned olive/brown trim I think it would look great with your cedar.

you will need to figure out what color wash you want and then pick a paint color for your siding. I would choose one that blends with the end effect of the lime wash.
