In the kitchen, stack the plates on one shelf, the cups on one shelf and the bowls on one shelf. You could use the bottom shelf and top shelf on one side and the middle shelf on the other. That might be more harmonious than what you have now. If you have a potted plant or flowers, that would be a nice addition.

I'd do this in the living room. I think it's more interesting.

I've read that a bowl of brightly colored fruit, such as lemons, makes a kitchen more homey.

Are you still living there, or have you already (mostly) moved out? Because if the latter, I'd completely rearrange the living room, with the couch in front of the window and the TV/stand on the current couch wall, which would make the room feel bigger and create a natural walkway. Otherwise, just pull your armchair up onto the rug (and into conversational distance with the couch), maybe give it the white drum table as a side table and set the current console against the table by the door, like an entry table (and good place to have your realtor's notes).

In the kitchen, if you have any rug or mat with red in it, I'd add it in front of the sink to pull the elements together and add some pop. Otherwise, see if you can borrow a red tea kettle from a friend. :)

Beverly's layout is good. Alteratively, you could create more of an entrance by floating sofa to face TV, turn rug the other way, put your sofa table behind it to serve as a landing spot. Scoot TV one foot toward doorway then put your armchair tilted to face sofa, drum table next to it, and reading floor lamp behind it.

Kitchen: get a red and tan indoor outdoor rug for under the sink.

Add some red mugs or red vintage glassware on the open shelves.
