Reshape windows

Hi everyone, I just bought a home and it has colonial style windows. I’d like to change the look to more modern and make the windows rectangle, getting rid of the arch. What type of professional does that work? I looked for a mason on Angi but it doesn’t give me the option for the type of remodeling I need. I also want to remove 2 columns from family room. Please be specific. I’m in Miami Dade County if you have recommendations . Thank you!

Honestly, I like the arches and I’d make the space work with them. I’d remove the swirly columns.

If the house is Miami Dade then many of the homes are concrete block construction. Also there are lots of elements on your home that lean Mediterranean. If you want to change the appearance that much it will require an architect and this remodeling is going to be $$$$

You could change the size of some windows, eiliminate the arches and relandscape to create a different appearance.

Here's a more sophisticated paint job in ivory with blue door for a Mediterrean house style like yours with interesting landscaping. Your windows are fine, but there are other ways to get a crisper look for a house you bought.

Yes, you need a general contractor that will coordinate the necessary trades to complete the project. Many of the houses in my FL neighborhood that are being remodeled are removing the arches both inside and outside.

I would also think about consulting with an architect to see if you can improve the overall look of the house when you remove any arches. The house already looks like it went through a poorly thought out addition, so you don't want to add more mistakes.

honestly - i would leave arches, leave the blinds covering them and inside dry-wall that space in. so inside you dont see them, outside you see the blinds. i this is in a bunch of older three deckers in new england where the bath had a big window.. outside you see the window, inside no window.

Am going to suggest that if you are going to have your windows replaced that you enlarge the rough openings and install larger windows. Your house seems on the large size and the existing windows seem undersized. Would also suggest that you replace your garage door with one that has lites (windows) in it. Nothing enlivens a flat garage door like the addition of windows.

My first thing would be get rid of those hideous pillars . As for the windows I think they suit the style of the house so I guess it depends on what you want for a new style. Waht kind of windows covering in that TV room that looks ridiculous with the drapes pulled to the middle and the TV is too high. I guess if I start looking the windows become less of an isse for me.I do agree the garage does not suit the house and for me all that hard scape drivewya look is not attrative
