I've never grown colocasia, though caladiums are quite the fancy things, never had much success overwintering them.

Stunning lotus! These require more warmth than my location can supply, though waterlilies thrive in the home water garden and large vigorous types some of them adapt to earthen ponds and lakes.

That is stunning, Rouge.I have never grown an aroid of any kind. Partly cos I just haven't got around to it, but mostly, I think, after being massively put off by my feeble hosta attempts, I just don't really go down the leafy foliage road at all. (apart from ferns and a few silvery things). My eldest is much keener on that sort of thing and d-i-l grows orchids ...makes me feel very humdrum.

Thanks @rosaprimula UK (Cambridge) Z8/9. There are three plants in this pot, the colocasia and two dragon wing begonias (one white and one red). My partner wishes I had gone with *2* red for more visual impact from the sidewalk/street but I was intrigued by acquiring a *white* dragon wing...dont usually see that. All three plants were way small when I planted them back in late May. It is crazy how some annuals can grow so large so fast.

@rouge21_gw (CDN Z5b/6a) Not just annuals, of course. I was always amazed how hollyhocks went from itty bitty plants to behemoths overnight. And the same for hibiscus. I always think maybe my hibiscus isn't coming back this year as it's so late to break dormancy. Then a week later it's already a foot tall.

Rouge, but the white begonia is a bit glorious, I need it for next year :)

I dug up this same "Pharoahs Mask" last fall, dried it out and then put it in a shoe box and put it in under the desk in a too cool empty bedroom.

I potted it up on February 12/24 and exactly 2 months later it showed signs of life!

And here it is today:

(What has your experience been as a 'usual' amount of time after potting it up in the early spring before it pokes through the soil...my 2 months seems like too long?)

I showed my daughter your original pic, Rouge, and she took it and ran with it. She is also growing colocasia and begonias in what she fondly calls her 'Greek terrace'. A lot of white painted plaster walls, terracotta pots and blue painted timber. As it also happens, the floor is made of 'sea brick', set in cement.
