Squirrels eat and like Sluggo. I think birds will too. They SAY it's non-toxic to wildlife, but that's not for large amounts. Iron phosphate occurs naturally in some soils. It's the EDTA they add to it that makes it more toxic.

I just discovered Sluggo Plus this year and love this stuff. I was beside myself when small beet, basil, parsley, and some lettuce seedlings were being demolished as soon as they sprouted or were planted out. Suspected slugs but went out at night to see what was eating them - turns out it was mostly earwigs and pill bugs. Tried to find a natural means of control but nothing really stood out. Stumbled on Sluggo Plus and purchased some from Home Depot.

My granules usually disappear by morning too, but one or two applications seems to be enough because I now have seedlings that survived the onslaught and are good sized plants. :)

Apparently Sluggo Plus is certified organic and includes spinosad as well as iron phosphate. Supposedly it's ok for the other critters. I don't think squirrels or birds are nocturnal so it's probably not them eating it at night anyway.

Rats are nocturnal, and they love Sluggo too. Sluggo actually attracts rats. LOTS of animals love it. Even dogs. It's OK for critters unless they eat a lot of it. Not sure if it'll kill them, but it'll make them quite sick.

Note that pill bugs do not damage live plants. They feed on decaying vegetable matter, and actually help aerate the soil.
