We think you could do a built-in, however you might want to add legs unless it can be supported by the wall only. Here are various ideas for you which might help you figure out exactly how you want to do the storage.

I use Besta from Ikea lot for kids LR toy storage but IMO they do not need to have every toy they own out at the same time and the really big ones need to go back in the bedroom at the end of the day. We actually kept Christmas toys 1/2 to play with and in June put those away and pulled out the other 1/2 we had put away, Why not even do Ikea kitchen cabinets along that wall they need to have legs at the front but mount to the wall easily and would for sure hold big bins.and only be 8" deeper .

Thanks Patricia. Problem is this is our only storage space. It’ll be for toys and books, school work, instruments, etc now and eventually for other things as we grow up (off season jackets or sports equipment). They have no room for storage in their room as it barely fits their furniture and they don’t have a closet. The only problem w city living…..no space. We actually have ikea in the room now but since it’s our one space and it’s shared I’m trying to make it have both form (for my sanity) and function (for theirs). I was hoping for a little upgrade and for a perfect fit to maximize the little indent in the wall. If there is extra storage in the unit then I could use it for my own stuff too.

|'m wondering if the Ivar system from Ikea might work spanning over the full wall. You could use the deepers shelves in the indent section and the smaller shelves/cabinets further along the wall. You can paint them whatever colour you'd like.

Oddly the Ivar is what started this whole thing lol. Turns out it’s 1/4” too big if I get three.

I'm not sure how handy you are, but I've cut Ivar to fit a tight space (cut boards and routed out a groove for the peg to fit). I didn't try to cut down the cupboard sections though. You might want to show your whole space and see what ideas people on this site come up with - so many talented posters here. For instance a small couch might just fit in the inset portion of the wall and the tv on the opposite wall?

You could get RTA cabinets in whatever size and door configuration works for you. We did that on both sides of a fireplace and love it. Check out Barker and Conestoga, we've used both and they are good quality cabinets.
