This is definitely a geometrid, it might be ID-able to a genus.

For ID purposes, usually the FW span is given (wing-to-wing and more rarely, a single wing) rather than the body length (although this dimension is easier to get in the above image).

You may want to check out other closely-related moths before settling on this ID.

I did check out Genus Digrammia, and D. ocellinata is really the only thing that comes close, despite it being quite variable. It's also the only species with underside views in BG that also match my specimen; actually it is one of the very few species that shows a significant number of images of the underside of the wings.

It is also quite consistent with several sources that provide mapping records showing it in SW Mich.

So I think it is a pretty safe bet that this is Digrammia ocellinata, barring DNA confirmation.

How many different moth species have you attracted to the back-lit sheet?

I have identified about 314, by myself, and with the help of others, like you. Close to 300 have all been in my backyard. About 30 so far this year. I can't really explain why so much diversity. I get moths associated with habitats and food that do not seem to be within miles of my location. I have seen over 10 Gypsy moth (Lymantria dispar) males so far but can't locate any females, egg masses, or larvae. So I must admit it is interesting, challenging and fun, what ever the explanation.

I doubt that there are 30 moth species on my city lot.

I seriously doubt that all of the species (moths and other insects) that I have observed actually reside, complete their life cycle, in my back yard. I can only speculate on their origins. Some might be attracted from nearby (100 yards or less) by the light. As for most of the others, my guess is that they may have become caught up in wind currents or some may be more migratory than the published facts seem to suggest. I really don't have a good explanation. I am not a trained expert by any means. I am just an amateur who has been observing and studying insects and other flora and fauna, seriously, for about 10 years.

You might be surprised at how may species are in your back yard. If you purposely attracted them, I think the numbers would amaze you.

If you think my moth numbers are high, don't get me started on the numbers of beetles, bugs, flies, and other insects that show up at my moth sheet. It also attracts spiders that come by for a snack. It even attracted a tree frog for the same reason.
