I blame it on a glitch in the matrix. I'll pick all of the cukes in the morning, scan the trellis 3 times to be sure I got them all, then after lunch from a distance I'll see a monster that I missed.

Ha ha. You should try striped Armenian cukes. I've harvested a few that were hiding under the foliage. They were more than two feet long. They were good eating though. Not an overabundance of seeds.

Dan, that is quite the cucumber! I've heard of Armenian Cucumbers but have never grown them. I'm glad it was good eating. I peeled my two largest, deseeded, sliced and diced, and they were fine... a more-solid tooth, but still good.

Party, I rarely drink the whole can no matter what size, so I figure I'm wasting less with the smaller can. Almost all brands of soda come in smaller cans here... as well as the larger sizes.

I have two more cukes coming on and I'm going to be watching for them. 😉

I drink the equivalent of about one or two cans of soda a year, so I asked a friend who drinks/buys soda occasionally and he said he’s never seen the smaller can size here either. I get the impression that healthy living is more emphasized in CA than what I see in NY, so I’m thinking that’s why you have it and we don’t. I’d love to be able to buy tonic water in that small size. :)

I vaguely remember my father having a huge cuke like yours and I think he scooped out the seeds, then he ran it through his heavy-duty hand-cranked meat grinder, and then made it into relish. :)

My cukes arn't very productive this year but I've picked enough for our use and have given away a few.

I had a zucchini hiding a few days ago that got out of control. By the time I found it, it was about 18" long and 5" around. I tossed it into the woods to see if the critters would eat it.

LOL........it's amazing how we can look and look and look to make sure we have all the cucumbers picked, but there always seems to be one hiding. They really want their seeds to grow and not be eaten by us humans, so they try real hard to hide. I was trying to find an old picture I took in the past, but couldn't find it. I've always grown "pickling cucumbers". The picture was of this HUGE big fat cucumber, about 12" tall and 4"wide and I set it in the top of a quart canning jar as a joke. Wish I could find that pic for here. It was one of those that hid very well for waaaay to long.
