HARDIE plank siding

We are currently building a craftsman style home with HARDIE plank cement board siding. We are supposed to close in a few weeks and even though we have said we are not happy with the installation of the siding, we were told that all houses have this buckling and gapping and it is within acceptable standards. We are not happy with that response since we thought HARDIE plank showed less imperfections than vinyl, especially since it cost more than brick! Does anyone have any knowledge of this? Thanks for any help.

It's poor install have them redo it

I know this picture isn't the greatest but you can see the shadows about five rows up from the lower windows all the way across, above the upper right window and below the peak. When I zoom in it makes it blurrier. I may have to try to take a different picture.

I have hardie and it sure doesn't look like that. I think the term acceptable is being stretched a lot in this case. Like cobweb thin. Shame on them

Here are a couple more pictures that might be a little clearer. It is much more noticeable from a little distance.

Completely unacceptable, are they used to installing vinyl? Looks like the pieces are poorly fitted and not fastened correctly either.

The builder said that all the other houses look like that. We are not buying that and we don't care what they look like! We know it's wrong and they pretty much aren't giving us a choice. They said it's fine and they will not fix it. So, they are forcing us to close because if we don't we'll lose our rate and our payment will go up.

Well it comes down to you it's your choice I wouldn't purchase sub par work makes me wonder about the rest of the home . How well it was constructed . good luck

Luckily my husband owns a plumbing business and he installed the plumbing so he was there checking up all the time. So, we are comfortable with most everything else at least. We shouldn't be put in this position, though. It stinks! Thanks for your input!

Contact hardie and see if they will warrant that install

The builder is right about one thing: looks like all the houses DO look like that. The one next door to you seems to have the same problem. I have Hardiplank on my house and it doesn't look like that either, so I'm guessing this contractor is cutting corners.

What about going ahead with the closing and then pursuing it in small claims court?
