Paint the concrete. Hide the trash barrels.

looks like a perfect hang out space to me. I wouldn't hang hammocks uniless you are confident no one will be flipping on to the concrete (or put something soft underneath). I think you want to stop short of attracting creatures, so don't make it too cozy. I think in addition to hanging seating some plastic rope lounge chaises and chairs, and portable rechargeable lamps would be great. Rocking chair. Maybe an indoor outdoor carpet. Mosquitio zappers. Probably painting the doors dark colors would help keep things looking fresh.

Think about water run-off and absorption before hardscaping or messing with the mulch. Figure you might get a lot more rain and bugs in the future than you've experienced before.

I actually think you should do everything else you want to do and paint the door pretty much last. Are you going to paint the concrete? Put an outdoor rug on it as well? That will make a difference to your choice. Also, it's not clear to me if you want to attract people to this area or not. If you have a "front door" somewhere else where people would normally arrive as visitors, you might want to play down this door.

Something else I would suggest is having a secure storage spot right at hand for windy weather. I tried to suggest very lightweight furniture. If you think you will want cushions and pillows, it's good to have a waterproof box.

Make sure you do some mosquito control down there if you are in a buggy part of the world. Mosquito netting can be quite pretty don't forget!

Not painted concrete...concrete stain. We alll know leaves caan stain concrete, same principle. Just don't spray in parallel sweeps. You will see the lines so use a random patttern.

You could also tape out a geometric or tile look.

We did a compass point in different color concrete stains for our front porch for example...very nice.

Plants and the rug and lighting mentioned would create an area to relax after a ride or sail or on a rain break.

What about a water cooler? Stop for a glass of water and put your feet up. Use the area for a yoga mat or barbells?

I haven't researched these but something like this is compact and safe and no installation. One is stowable.

If you don't have a screened porch consider draping the perimeter in mosquito cloth.
