The idea picture looks great! The deeper lower cabinets are wonderful for many things. The built-ins in your picture looks perfect! You can always adjust the depth of the upper cabinets but 26 inches is too deep for the upper cabinets. Our bookshelves are 12 inches deep. So 12 to 15 inches should hold most books or items you would want to put on those shelves. Congratulations on your new home.

26” is very deep for board games, but you could store rectangular boxes with the short end facing out. The smaller square boxes would go too far back.

You may want to store sheets, pillowcases, blankets, comforters, and pillows in the lower cabinet for those times when you would want to use the hide a bed. Or, just cuddle up on the couches. Just a suggestion. That’s where we keep ours For our hide a bed, then they are nearby. Again, just a thought/suggestion. Best wishes.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to add the hide a bed thing in there for you. I was just saying that’s where we put our linens for the hide a bed that we have. If the shelves are not finished off, then it is the contractors responsibility to build it the way you want it, and your architect drew it up. Make them redo it the way you want it since it is still in the unfinished stage. It is your house, so it should be the way you want it. Don’t let them get away with it.

Move the window. The cabinets should be drawers anyway. Deep drawers are much more useful. Shallower shelves over deeper bases is standard.

That's the same depth as lower kitchen cupboards (actually a little deeper). Think about what you're going to put in them and see if they'll get lost in that deep of cabinets. For me, I would want 15". Actually can you go 18"?

21" is standard for lowers with 15" upper shelves.

Undercounter frig?

These are 2 completely separate issues.

Definitely move the window.

Use PPF's design to get maximum storage(if you need it) and best display space.

My built-in bases are 19.5" deep and my shelves are 14" deep.

As much as I love drawers, I think built-ins in a living area look better with doors.

We also use ours for board game storage and you can see everything by opening two doors.

Ours was designed around a 75" Samsung Frame TV.

I guess id want to know how the window moving would affect the outside aesthetics before deciding on moving it.

These windows are really presenting challenges for our build (almost everything else is going great so I guess there needs to be something). We decided to have the windows moved in slightly and use ppf design for the built ins (thank you for the suggestion) The windows are scheduled to be moved on Monday, but the double sliding door went in today and it’s just not how I envisioned in. Would a window (?transom) above the door create more symmetry? I don’t want to decrease the side window height.

It would look best if the slider had the same header height. It'll be important to find out if the slider can have a transom mulled onto the top of it out in the field. If it can't, then you might need a bit of wall space between the top of the slider and the bottom of a separate horizontal picture window. Either way, it would be better to add a window above the slider. Worst case, if it's really not practical to add a window, you might consider whether there is art or window treatments that could disguise the uneven header heights.

You might check your plans and make sure it was not supposed to be taller. Clearly the opening was framed with a higher header matching the windows, and was later dropped to fit the door.

What will your windows look like? Could you post an elevation of the back of the house?

A transom could fill the space, but a taller door would look better.

Yes, on the plans the headers are the same.

You may have paid for tall doors and received short doors. Did you agree to the change before it occurred? Did you receive a credit for less expensive doors?
