Looking at your VRBO link I liked the upper cabinets being wool and blending with the walls. I think it made the kitchen area seem bigger.

I would have blue lower cabinets, because I like blue. Like your middle picture. I like having my counter tops and back splash out of the same material and I would do that, with a light colored material.

To get some industrial vibes I would put in a stainless steel stove hood. I would have an island that had a stainless steel counter top or I would use a restaurant quality work station or an garage work station (I have a garage work bench in my kitchen and I love it).

Show what you have now.........? The one with the red backsplash? Inspo's are great, but that is all they are. They are a feel, and you apply that feel to your own space. I vote for a soft neutral, which should blend well with the natural wood pine and just about anything else. For an industrial feel, I would think you would want contrast (think black or dark brown) and/or metals incorporated into the decor, possibly in the hardware or lighting.

I love the kitchen Vikki posted, but I can't picture it in my house. I don't think it'd actually make the space feel updated by adding more natural wood tones. I think I'm just looking for a change. I'm a private person so I didn't want to show our actual space, but here it is. Messy, of course. We're for sure going to be removing the upper cabinets to the left of the sink and doing open shelving.

I was thinking concrete accents might be cool. Like light fixtures, perhaps? Something like these maybe. Obviously I'm not going to find a photo of exactly what I want, but I'm not getting even close. I had a hard time seeing anything else that works with the space except to keep it feeling cabin-y.

are you going to removing/replacing the log railing that divides the dining space from the living room? Even if it can't be removed I'd be tempted to put it behind low bookcases there (on the dining room side) or possibly just break it up with a trio of the jewel-tone type blankets you like. Just drape them over the railings.

(Btw, the blanket you like is a Hudson's Bay blanket, and you can find striped ones exactly like that online from vintage stores. They are not always cheap, but if you are using them for decor you can get bargains (as it is easier to position the blanket to hide the odd irremovable stain or hole)

I think your instincts for concrete are right, and one thing that might de-cabinize the look of your space is to get concrete-toned floor covering for variious areas of your house, in a material other than typical rug fabric.

if you don't have kids (chairs are a camel velvet), a dining set up like this (from CB2) could be nice, with concrete or clay light fixture (although this is nice) plus a circular gray mat underneath

Rather than remove the log surface behind your wire shelving, I'd relocate the shelving and get a huge framed piece (the same size as the windows) and call it a day! I'd probably get a map of Minnesota.

I think you are confusing yourself, by trying to

do too much multi think ! Trying to "decorate" too much at once. Start with only the kitchen. Why not a just a simple slab door and drawer face? Or the skinniest shaker trim on slab. Completely opposite all that heavy log and pine detail. Pick a green!

It's a natural with ANY wood tone, looks great with black, great with stone, with concrete.

Do the open shelves as black iron.... repeat it on green cabinets
