Agree with white subway tile

I would not bother with tile. I’d just paint.

I used to have that granite and I always thought an ivory tile would look nice with it. White would be too stark I think.

Get the repurposed granite and maple cabinets installed and then come back with updated pictures.

Are you open to repainting the grey walls?

An interior designer friend gave me excellent advice - pick a medium value tone found in the granite and use that for your color for the backsplash. It will relate well with the granite and tone it down a bit. I would keep the pattern of the backsplash simple as there is a lot of pattern going on in the granite. Good luck!

Thanks for your suggestions. We are keeping things as is for the most part, including keeping the wall color. Small budget and a lot of other work have been done.
I know ideally we should wait until everything is installed, but we are on a tight timeline.
I’m thinking bright white will be too stark too. Not sure if I should do very light grey or cream. I thought about not doing tile at all, but I don’t think the granite remnants we have will allow for short granite backsplash

stick w white. I love the repurposing but honestly....you have red tone in the floor which only makes the yellow of the older maple cabinetry more so. then the counter has tan and black.. then the gray walls???? HUH?? nothing corresponds to anything else. but its a forgiving sort of endeavor w the cost savings and the end result of use. anyway..stick with white and I'd get rid of gray walls if you can find a paint sale [Labour Day}.

Ivory subway tile would look nice. I agree with the other posters - the gray walls don't work with everything else.

We have painted drywall for our backsplash. unless you are a fry cook, it is adequate.

For tile, you are right. Stark white will be too…..stark.

I’m not a fan of the wall color either, but repainting is not in the budget or timeline at the moment. If you have suggestions for for wall colors, please add them in. I will save it for the future

Skip the tile and put this behind the stove. Broan stainless steel backsplash.I got mine at Lowes. It goes up with 4 screws. You do have to buy the screws extra.

here's a little snapshot of part of a space w the granite/ lighter maple cabs and splash tiles in a grayish white...it kind of works I think....and in your case w cooler reddish floors/white trim and gray walls for at least now .........dont worry about changing walls then.... light bulbs when all in , will affect the space, and you need to complete the tile work apparently.. How great you can repurpose items in hand and they don’t end up in the landfill. Agree with the softer white tile check under tones against the gray wall paint, grays can have a blue-ish cast that can compete with the tile.

IMO a nice brown glass tile but no gray walls IMO with that granite.

Simple white backsplash with bright white grout will work quite nicely. Will reflect light, yet recede into the background. The movement in the granite is all you need. Keep everything else quiet. Any chance of changing the paint? It would be an afternoon's project. You could do it while you are doing the tile work. SW Alabaster would work nicely with everything else.

Yes, stark white is going to be too bright. If you have a Floor and Decor nearby, they have an ivory tile that should do the trick. Check Home Depot too. Lowe’s didn’t have anything ivory in my area but your area might.

F&D have great prices and you have a small space. It shouldn’t be expensive.

Not to beat you up, but the wall color should be warmer. Whenever you’re ready to paint - try SW Antique - it’s a pretty, warm ivory.

so things arent necessarily pefect.... you can also just go for pretty with a tile selection and

complement the worry free attitude/ cost savings you have achieved. Mother of pearl has all the light tones yet subtle enough and would work in the one run only that you have. It would be a high possibility if I were in your situation. Take a visit to your best tile outlet and keep in mind its one short run you are doing.

Consider the color pallet of your expensive surfaces (golden cabs, dark brown floor, flecks of golden and black and dark gray in the granite). Black, gray, and brown are your “receding” neutral colors. Golden is your “advancing” color. So a black or gray backsplash will emphasize golden as an intentional choice, and a solid simple subway tile won’t fight the busy patterns of the floor and countertops, and will make the gray walls look intentional, too. Rugs in the kitchen and adjoining spaces will cover up some of the floor.
