What to do with windows? going for a transitional style home.

Hello everyone, dad and I building first project. We made the mistake to install wood windows in south. Now we don’t know what color we should paint the windows or if we can put some sort of wrapping on the windows to protect them. Is that possible?

Some of the windows came installed with a pvc wrap already but honestly isn’t thick enough. What color should we paint these windows? Is black dangerous? The stone and brick we have ordered are very light color schemes. (Winter haven brick) any advice ?

    Who is the window manufacturer?

Our builder said that he made the mistake of painting wood windows black on a house on our street. Windows were installed 3 mos ago and they have already warped. We’re in GA. He will have to replace all of those windows before he lists the home. We are painting our house a light color and we plan to paint the windows the same color or white. Our windows actually came with a sticker that said “do not paint dark colors. Using colors with LRV of 56 or darker voids the manuf warranty”.

Winterhaven is currently being shown with dark window trim. But not always.

You can replace the windows on the south face with fiberglass or aluminum clad in a dark color or paint your existing windows to match the brick. The brick should get matching mortar. You've already created a problem by choosing windows with white frames.

Are you sure he said wood? Wood windows don't warp because of excess heat. You can paint wood windows black all day long without worrying about that.

    What window company?

This planet is sick of us so when you have the hottest summer in the planet’s known history, some interesting things are bound to happen.

Dyke windows. I think they are based here in Atlanta.

The window manufacturer is Builders First choice. Considering changing the south facing windows to match the aluminum window placed above the front door.

The supplier might be Builders FirstSource in Irving Texas. They could be any type of window but the caution regarding dark colors is almost certainly for PVC windows even PVC clad wood windows.

You need better information from the builder.

What I know of Builders First Source is that they do offer their own vinyl windows (I have visited one of their factories), and I believe that they also offer windows from other sources as well.

I don't know if they produce their own wood windows, but if you have vinyl wrapped wood windows, then I would suspect that they could be from Andersen. I would avoid painting those - just my opinion.

Not sure if BFS directly manufactures aluminum windows, but there should be no problems painting those if you choose to do so.

Factory paint only. Don't paint vinyl.
