There isn’t an exact match, but these are similar:

Have it color matched by the painter since he is driving the bus. I never let my painter choose the brand of paint if I have a preference.

The proposal for the work specifies Dunn Edwards paint, but the siding / painting contractor is willing to switch to B.M. if that's my preference. They won't guarantee a color match otherwise. I am uncertain on how to best match to the color on the front of the house, because I don't know what was actually used there.

The exterior of the house was painted 11 years ago. I specified B.M. Eclipse for the wood siding. I have since discarded any cans of leftover paint (at a hazmat facility) and I cannot remember what brand of paint was actually used then.

Eight years ago, I had the wood siding (on the front of the house only) replaced with fiber cement siding (Hardi-Plank) and again specified B.M. Eclipse (different painter). I have since discarded all but one can of paint -- the paint used on the front door. That can of paint is Dunn Edwards and is identified as "Tint-able White."

I think that means that Dunn Edwards mixed up formulas to try to emulate the B.M. colors that I chose. I am guessing that (8 years ago) the painter used Dunn Edwards everywhere regardless of my specifying B.M. colors -- which would explain why colors looked slightly different from what I chose.

Now I am continuing the Hardi-Plank onto one side and the back of the house (southwestern exposure). I think I should try to match the color to what is on the front of the house -- but, apparently, it is not exactly what I specified -- and some minor fading may make it impossible to match, anyway.

According to this Dunn-Edwards InstaColor web page (scroll down), you can install an app on your phone to find the Dunn-Edwards paint that closest matches the paint you photograph.

Home Depot (and Dunn-Edwards may offer the same) will mix up sample-size containers of other brand's products whose color formulas are stored in the paint mixing computer.

In order to use the Dunn-Edwards InstaColor app you have to purchase a hand-held colorimeter, they branded a ColorReader from DataColor and are calling it the InstaColor device.

According to encolorcyclopedia.com the closest Dunn Edwards match is Vulcan/386.
Get a quart of each and paint a sample board and see how they compare.

No, you can take a photo with your camera, select it from within the app, and the app will show you the color data (e.g., RGB), the closest Dunn-Edwards paint color, and similar DE colors. Based on testing, the app will match whichever color is in the upper left-hand corner of the selected photo. Are the results "accurate"? Well, colors appear different in various lighting and phone cameras vary as well so I wouldn't rely on it for perfect color matching. If you have a non-DE paint color, I would suspect that the store's paint computer would create a better match.

Note that you can buy 8 oz DE paint samples for $6; you don't have buy a whole quart.

I painted a small square of the Hardi-Plank on my balcony with a fresh coat of B.M. Eclipse. The balcony had been painted 8 years ago with a Dunn Edwards paint that was supposedly tinted to match to the B.M. Eclipse color. The fresh coat of paint is on the left.

Not an exact match. The fresh paint looks more blue, less grey. I do not know if this can be attributed entirely to fading from the sunlight.

The new siding that will be installed will be separated by white trim pieces from the siding on the front of the house, so color differences will not be as obvious as in this photo.

If I try to match to existing, it will take me more toward light gray. I'm waiting to hear back from the siding /painting contractor on whether there is an increased cost for choosing B.M. over DE.

@plan2remodel in the paint sample picture you just posted, is the fresh paint sample mixed in ben moore or dunn edwards paint? If ben moore, you may want to get a sample of it mixed in dunn edwards to see if you get a better match. Truthfully, I wouldn’t be surprised if its mainly due to fading over the past 8 years especially with a deep color like Eclipse.

The fresh paint sample is B.M. Eclipse. I called the local DE store to ask about color mixing. The salesperson told me to bring in a "chunk of the painted wall" to match. Huh?

So, I am going with B.M. Eclipse. Next, I need to choose the white trim color. I'm deciding between B.M. Simply White or B.M. Chantilly Lace. At least three different whites have been used on the trim by various painters.

As an example all three of these samples are of Magnolia Gatherings, one mixed in Magnolia, one mixed in Ben Moore and one mixed in Sherwin Williams.
