I think your backsplash and cabinets are fine. It’s the tan paint color. I’d go white instead.

Cover your backsplash with poster board painted ivory and then see if your kitchen looks better. It’s completely different in terms of warm” vs, “cool”. Changing the backsplash to ivory tiles would make the entire area look better, but this easy exercise will show you why.

I just changed the backsplash!!! Its, white,grey and bluegrey. The walls are costal grey but have a tinge f green!

Sorry, your backsplash choice was a mistake. Not just the colors, but the narrow multi-colored tiles are too busy, and with too many grout lines.

Agree that the new backsplash was a mistake. Colors do not compliment cabinetry and counters and that style is very dated. I would take it down and start over there first.

Successful updates are done in a cohesive manner. Not piecemeal, as you’ve done. As has been advised on this forum over-and over-and over…the backsplash is the last thing to be selected, after all other elements are installed.

Well. So very sorry to say it wasn't a great choice. Now......maybe it is the very cold led lighting under the cabinets, versus WARMER lighting elsewhere, such as dated recessed lighting.

Warm the cool or cool the warm. Turn off the under cabinet lighting and take another picture in broad daylight.

Open any window treatments, and take one more with just the under cabinet lighting.

Post both of those.

Then? There will still be a fight between the wall color, but it may give a better look to the backsplash /counter top marriage.

The backsplash is at last 15 years out of date, and gray anything is 5 years out of date. Which wouldn’t matter if they actually worked. They would need a very sleek and modern glossy slab door kitchen space in a concrete warehouse.

The existing warm wood cabinets are the best part about the space, and everything should be planned to work with thrm. That means getting rid of the awful prison gray walls and the bar code backsplash, ASAP. A warm white, or warm green, would be perfect with the creams and woods.

And, no, do not paint your cabinets. Change the backsplash and possibly wall paint and lower cabinet paint, which doesn't harmonize with your lovely cabinets. As someone said, you're trying to solve a problem created by doing things piecemeal. Everything has to work together. This is a mish mosh, which is probably why you're unhappy with the results.

Your question is “ should I paint my cabinets? What colour?” There is no further information and only 1 photo.
Do you mean paint the wood stained cabinets or the repaint the painted cabinets?
The wood stained cabinets are the best part of your kitchen but it’s unfortunate that the others have been painted. They just blend into the wall, you need some contrast with those ones. Perhaps painting them a soft white would help, but stained wood would have been better.
The feature that stands out the most is the backsplash. I’m sorry you just installed it. But it’s not doing your kitchen any favours.
So, I guess “yes, repaint the painted cabinets” perhaps a soft white.
Definitely change the back splash to something more up to date and simpler.
Then repaint the kitchen.
I would get some local help in making colour and tile choices to ensure that everything works together.

Professionally painting cabinets to last, and using actual cabinet coatings, is not cheap. It would be better to focus on stripping of the paint from the ones that have been painted.

Kelly, you will be fine, you don’t have to copy kitchen trends to have an attractive kitchen! You are right that you need a color scheme for cabs and walls to pull together kitchen elements that won’t change (yellowish flooring and tan countertop and white/gray/bluegray backsplash). Tan/blue-gray color scheme - paint all cabs bluegray from the tile color (see photo).

I agree that more pictures would help. It’s vital to see the kitchen in context with the whole. I came across this photo and thought the warm colors look great with your other choices - particularly those handsome bar stools. However, it’s possible it may clash with the decor in nearby spaces.

You have too many colors going on in this kitchen in my opinion. I would change the wall color, change the backsplash. Wood color cabinets are coming back in fashion, so I would leave them as is.

I would definitely start with new hardware and a backsplash instead!
