We have a fairly large living room. It functions as a living room, personal library, and semi-office. I've included photos when we first bought the house so you can see it as a blank slate.

When you walk in through the front door, there are 2 blank walls (first pic), one in front of you and one to the right. (In the pic the right one is the one with the vents). Though there is no foyer, there's a small hallway immediately to the right of the front door where we keep shoes and keys, etc (in the pic it's the area with the ceiling light).

When you turn left from the front door, there is a fireplace (second pic). To the left of the fireplace there is a large window overlooking our front yard (not seen in the pic). To the right of the fireplace is our dining room.

Currently, I have a couch in the middle of the room facing the fireplace, and 2 armchairs flanking the fireplace. On the left wall of the fireplace there is a tall bookshelf with all my fiction books. To the right of the fireplace and "in" the dining room is a closed shelf/china cabinet with plates, cups, etc.

Since the couch is in the middle of the room, there's about a 6ft x 10ft space behind it. What I need help in, is figuring out what to put in that area (first pic) behind the couch.

Currently I have 2 long console tables on the right wall (the one with the vents) where we keep a lot of office stuff in.

I want to put a large shelf or display cabinet on the left wall to hold coffee table books, nonfiction, and knick knacks. I have a lot of books!

Will this be too much furniture in the room overall? Should I put a console table behind the sofa to create more of a division? Should I put more seating in that space and if so, how? Also, any suggestions on general layout of all the other furniture? Thank you!
