Real butcher block is end grain, not face grain. Boos is very reasonable. So is a local cabinet maker.

John H. Boos is about the best in butcherblock.

Any local cabinet maker with a jointer can make you a wood counter. Do you want one for show, or for actual food prep? The details are different for the 2 different functions. Food prep is end grain, finished with mineral oil. That is food safe, and won’t show knife marks, as end grain is self healing. If you want a wood top for show, that is face grain, usually finished with a lacquer type clear film. You do not prep food on that type of wood counter. You use a cutting board on top of it.

When we got our maple counters, I looked all over and priced out HD, etc. My contractor said he had a guy that did them. They cut them to size (instead of getting slabs that end up wasting precious footage) and didn't end up costing significantly more than the big box store versions. Ask around and see who does it locally.

I decided to go with hardwood lumber. shipping is about $400, but I searched their seconds inventory and got a bunch of stuff for different projects at really good prices. hopefully it works out!
