Just wondering why not park in the garage? It’s meant for cars.

Ours is in the garage as that’s where we park our cars . I would not want one outside because of exposure to the elements like rain and also because of possible theft .

Our house is elevated about 11 ft. We park there and the charger is in the center of that space. While it is outside, it is well sheltered.

Ours is outside. Just factor in the cost of running the heavy conduit however far -- it adds up.

Agree about the garages, though -- if you're building, why don't you build for what you'll use? More storage elsewhere, or a carport instead of a garage, or whatever...

This post is a couple of years old now, but for anyone still looking at this, putting the unit on the exterior wall is the best move if you park outside.

We mostly park outside too, so I put the charger on the exterior wall right next to the driveway. Wolf River Electric installed it for me. They handled the whole thing, permit, electrical work, and even helped me choose the right spot . I also had them run a 60A circuit and hardwire a Tesla Wall Connector for the fastest charging . It’s been working great.

Take a look at the YTube channel State of Charge. Tom tests and reviews chargers. He does rescues for poor installations by licensed electricians. I would install chargers inside a garage. Long-term protection. All the parts of a charging circuit from the breaker, the wiring gauge and receptacle if not hard wired have to be industrial continuous duty grade. If you use standard they will overheat and could cause a fire. Hubell and Bryant for the 220v receptacle. EV chargers are coming with bidirectional capability.
