I do not like bare bulb lighting over an island it usully glares in your eyes. I also dislike edison bulb type lighting always. I have no idea of what your space is like . The lighting above the island is decided bty taking all the space into the choice . So we need to see the kitchen Post pics here in a comment DO NOT start another post.

I hear your concern on the clear glass - but I thought it might be a nice addition, I don't like glare. A milkier glass might be nice -- or a opaque metal option. Do you have any favorites you'd recommend? I still think we want something with a 16" base opening, if it is a beaker shape
